In his chat at ESPN.com, Pierre LeBrun says that the Rangers covet two things as they try to shape their team for a playoff run.
LeBrun says that one is a top-six forward and that the other is a defenseman for the PP.
I would imagine that the defenseman would be of the Bryan McCabe big shooter variety that they tried last season. Brad Richards can PP a power play from the left point and John Tortorella has started to use Dan Girardi on the right point.
The Shane Doan/Ray Whitney stuff started earlier today and I think that if they look to upgrade in the top six, it would be for more of a veteran type of player over someone like Bobby Ryan who would cost a lot more. I think that Whitney, or Doan, would be a really good fit.
LeBrun says that there is no truth to anything linking Doan to a trade right now.
