Buzz: The Salary Cap Could Rise To $80 Million In A Few Years

According to Elliotte Friedman, via PHT, reported yesterday that some NHL insiders think the salary cap will rise to around $80 million by the 2017-18 season.

Friedman said that players needing to take a pay cut this summer could be a one-year thing, “I think that there is a lot of expectation. They had a meeting with the Presidents and there were guys there that were told that the cap could reach $80 million in 3 or 4 years. They think this will be a one-year issue.”

The salary cap is currently at $64.3 million and is expected to rise next season.
