Glen Sather said after the draft that he didn’t expect to have his RFA’s signed before July 1.
First, I am pretty sure that the Rangers will match any offer for Callahan. Besides Marc Staal and Henrik Lundqvist, you could argue that he is the Rangers most important player and the forward that John Tortorella trusts more than any other. If he were to garner an offer sheet and the Rangers not match, it’s likely that the Rangers would get a first and a third in compensation. I wouldn’t worry about the two sides being far apart. This is the beginning of the process and Sather wants to take it slow with the RFAs.
Callahan signed his last contract on July 13th, 2009.
