Buzz: The NHL Won’t Budge On Term Limits For Contracts

According to Bob McKenzie and John Shannon, the NHL has agreed to keep free agency and salary arbitration the same as it was in the previous CBA.

The NHL however has not dropped their demand for five-year contract limits, no more than a 5% variance in salary from year to year and a 10 year CBA that has an opt-out after 8 years.

McKenzie does note that the NHL would allow teams to sign their own free agents for seven seasons.

Elliotte Friedman writes that the 5% variance is a huge deal to the NHL as they try to fight back diving contracts.
