Update:8:04PM: Syracuse.com says that it won’t be the Rangers moving to Syracause.
…There goes that.
Original Post: The Columbus Blue Jackets are ending their relationship with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL. While a new team is being searched for for Columbus to be associated with, speculation, according to Syracuse.com is that the Rangers could end up as the team.
Dolgon would not identify that team, but speculation has centered around the New York Rangers. Dolgon, a Long Island resident, is a former Rangers season ticket holder and is good friends with New York assistant general manager Jim Schoenfeld.
The Rangers own their own franchise in Hartford and would have to sell it or put it in suspension if they want to pair up with Dolgon in Syracuse. It’s unclear how much the Rangers might have to pay to get out of their current deal with the Wolf Pack. Schoenfeld did not return a phone message on Wednesday night.
…I know Howie, I was good friends with his son before I moved to another part of Long Island years ago. I remember watching the Flyers eliminate the Rangers from his house in 1997. I also have an old Syracuse Crunch jersey personalized with #66 for some reason.
The team that I have hear connected with this is the Islanders, but they are with Bridgeport now so that could also be unlikely. Hartford is closer to MSG than Syracuse is and the Rangers own the team so that doesn’t seem likely that they would be the ones moving to Syracuse.
That is the old logo, but I like it better than the current one
