Brooks writes that the trade for Steve Eminger essentially blocked the Rangers from Morrison because of Eminger’s cap hit.
Morrison, 28, was a former first round pick and is 6-4, 217.
…Nice size, probably could have helped, but Eminger over Morrison doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. Eminger was acquired on July 9th and Morrison could have been signed before then. No one else would have taken Aaron Voros except Anaheim, and they only would have accepted Eminger as someone going back in the deal. If that is the case, why trade Voros at all. Its nice that the Rangers have given Voros another chance to play in the NHL, but this is a business and if the Rangers wanted Morrison, but could only trade Voros for Eminger, then send Voros to the minors and sign Morrison.
They could have signed Morrison before any other moves were made, so its there own fault for letting him get to this point in free agency and being blocked from signing him.
