No 1st rd pick this year no 1st rd pick last year really makes this a no brainer. Get the kid signed all he's looking for is a chance to play. I can deal with

Nash/Stepan/Krieder

St. Louis/Bro/Hayes

Zucc/Stepniak/Hagelin ( Speed kills line )

I could even live with

Nash/Bro/St. Louis

Krieder/ Stepan/Hayes

Same 3rd

The hype is growing. This guy wasn't in Chicagos top 10 prospects. He is not a savior and he will not be a top 6 forward anytime soon. Sure he'd be a nice add to a thin prospect pool but the expectations are ridiculous.

He will go to the team that will offer him the best opportunity to start in the NHL right away. Part of the reason why he is playing hardball with the Hawks is that he isn't likely to start for them for awhile. Their roster is stacked and he has a very outside chance of making the Hawks lineup.

Similar to Justin Schultz, he will go where its close to home (Massachusetts) and the best opportunity to play in the NHL.

if Hayes was smart and saw what his teammate Kreider did in the playoffs the past few years, he will sign with Rangers... is he the type to go to a good team with solid leaders around him to help him and his former teammate Kreider, or does he sign with a rebuilding team just for ice time?

Good riddance, from a Blackhawks fan. The last thing a team like the Hawks needs is a headcase that wants to leave the organization because he can't start right away. The Hawks didn't get where they are by putting unproven guys on the big stage. You have to work for your spot on this team, and Hayes is unwilling. No talent in the world will make up for how that can change your entire organization. I'll gladly take the extra 2nd round draft pick over him, at this point.

This kid is a no-brainer. Kreider and the big stage of NY should be enough to sway his decision

Why doesn't Chicago want to sign him? Anyone hear?

This would be a nice signing to supplement the loss of some recent high draft picks. He's close to ready.

Then I guess they shouldn't have signed Richards if they couldn't afford 900k for a future top 6

This reminds me of the erixon thing wear he didn't sign with Calgary. Doesn't happen often and is weird when it does with these draft picks.

@craig Hayes feels he is "too good" to play in the AHL for a while, so he wants to sign with a team where he can jump up to the NHL. He knows he won't start on the Hawks for a while, so he wants out. As a Hawks fan, I hope he takes that attitude as far away from Chicago as possible. That's not what winning hockey teams are made of.

And if any of the decision is about the Hawks trading his brother, they also don't need that immaturity. Grow up, shut up, and get out of Chicago.

Thanks for the input Scott. Red flags indeed! Buyer beware I guess.

@craig  I don't really see buyer beware at all.  He might be upset at Chicago trading his brother - that's natural.  He might feel he's ready for the NHL and would prefer a shot rather than a potential 3-4 years in the AHL - that's natural too.  Don't forget that as a college senior he's 21-22 years old.  He's not an 18 year old saying he doesn't want the AHL.  At 21-22, he should be playing in the NHL with the kind of talent he has rather than being a perennial AHL all-star.

His tactics may be a bit upsetting to Chicago fans, but they kinda make sense too.
