At his blog for Newsday, Steve Zipay writes that there is nothing new on the Marc Staal front but certain players believed that a deal could get done before the season starts.
…The Season? I would certainly hope so. I was hoping they could get it done before training camp but I would think that most of the players just assume that when the puck is dropped in Buffalo, Staal will be there.
I just wonder if Jets players thought and are thinking the same about Darrelle Revis
As has been noted before, the issue between the two parties is the length of the contract. A three-year contract would put Staal into his first year of unrestricted free agency.
…It’s the same thing as Bobby Ryan. Ideally Staal would be a better player and worth more money when he were to hit free agency and obviously the Rangers would want him locked up longer term now before they need to give him more money at a later time.
