Buzz: Does MSG have interest in adding executive Tim Leiweke?

8/21/14 | 4:48PM: MSG reportedly has “serious interest” in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment CEO Tim Leiweke who is set to leave that position in June 2015 or sooner if they can find a replacement. (John Shannon)

Interest from MSG was “forcefully” denied earlier this week. (CBC)

Leiweke is reportedly setting up his own company though there are rumors about Comcast, the Clippers and others having interest in him. (CBC)

Leiweke is someone who lets the sports people run the sports teams. (Toronto Sun)

He was interviewed by MSG in 2001 to be President of MSG after Dave Checketts left. (SBJ and NY Post)

  • He denied being interviewed and said that he was happy with his role in LA. (NY Times)
  • The role was split between Seth Abraham and Steve Mills who assumed the role of President in 2003. (NY Times)

MSG was though to be considering him for their role of President in 2013 but went with Dave Howard from the Mets. (Toronto Sun)

He has said, in formal statements, that he has the utmost respect for James Dolan. (NYT)
