BUZZ: Cam Hope Is Leaving The The Rangers

In the NY Post, Larry Brooks writes that the Rangers assistant GM, in charge of Hockey Administration, Cameron Hope, is leaving the team.

Hope had been with the Rangers for seven seasons, the last  four as assistant GM in charge of Hockey Administration.

He was Vice President of Hockey Administration, Research and Development before being promoted.

From the Rangers media guide, Hopes job was:

Hope continues to be responsible for all aspects of hockey administration for the team, including matters relating to the hockey club’s salary structure and to the team’s interaction with the National Hockey League regarding player contracts, player movement and Collective Bargaining Agreement issues. He oversees the day to day work of the hockey operations area, including the administration of all player and staff contracts. Hope also represents the club in salary arbitration matters, assists in negotiation of player contracts and coordinates team research projects.

He was previously a racecar driver in Canada and worked with the CFL Players Association.

H was a real behind the scenes guy and the Rangers CBA guy. The Rangers will need to replace him with someone good as this is a key role in the organization.

Good bye to an inadequate dman with no strength or heart on the ice.  Where did this guy come from? We gave him an  "A" big mistake,  Get him out of here.

Trading AMac is just doing him a favor, one he is not deserving of.

AMac is a human turnover machine, and soft as ice cream in the August sun.

MacDonald and his agent need to have their head examined. Turning down $16M over 4 years...really. Good luck finding a team to pay you that much.

Good thing we can rebuild the rebuild. Seven years from now we will be all set to trade more mediocre assets for second round picks.

Just get SIZE back for him please

Dmen for next year, Dehann Hamonic, Rheinhart, Pulock, Mayfield, Donnavan and Lubo. What ever order you like. Nice compliment of size and offense. If you want to keep a straight or hickey as healthy scratch, fine. Then move lubo now and gets some more pieces. Time to let the prospects plays. Get what you can for bailey or grabner. One is ok but both is to much. They are both one dimensional. Would like to see clutterbug on fourth line, and completely blow up third line with what you can get now at the trading dead line. Some team would be willing to give up a blue chipper for what we consider second liners.

Hickey should be dealt as well as strait. If you can find takers, make a move. They are nice 6 man d-man but all our d-man prospect project higher. Take what you can, give minutes at the pro level when it does not count to the young guys. That way next year you can give these guys a chance to start and not sign scrap heap players like regin pmb. Save the money for a big free agent splash that you will have to over pay for.

The Islanders are lucky Amac turned down their offer! The strength of this team next year should be on defense. With  the emergence of deHaan  and the continued developement of Rheinhart, Mayfield, Pokka, Pedan and Pulock the Isles should be in a good position for years to come.

Amac is not worth that kind of money, his agent must think because the Islanders can't resign Vanek the'll overpay for a mediocre defensemen who just happens to log alot of minutes. Besides the players coming in the near future, we still have Hamonic, Viz, Strait, Hickey, Donovan and ugh.... Carkner.

I believe Rheinhart will be on the Islanders next season and I can forsee the top six being

deHaan-Hamonic

Viz-Hickey

Strait-Rheinhart

For that guy! I nearly laughed my ass off when I heard what he was asking. He carries the puck out of the zone successfully, maybe 50% of the time. Terrible.

My G O D!!! F'in IDIOT SNOW!!! I would have taken a bag of pucks for him.

With Hamonic coming back on Sat, and Viz, Strait, DeHaan, Donovan and Hickey all playing, Amac will be gone, may go in a package deal with Vanek for something good, hopefully a goalie, and 1st round pick.  Amac has heart, and blocks a lot of shots, but also is on the ice when most of the shots are taking place, which is not a good thing.  He turns the puck over too many times, and gets over-powered easily.  It was a nice gesture of Garth to offer him more money than Okposo is getting.

Wow… judging by all the comments on here about how everyone on the islanders sucks so bad… if JT goes 3 more games without a goal or a multi point game… he will suck too.

MysteryMachine

I can't believe Snow was foolish enough to offer AMac this deal in the first place. The guy does not fit into the team's long-term plans coupled with the fact that he is grossly overrated.

Even sadder still is that AMac declined to test free agency and is not giving his team a hometown discount to re-sign.  He must not think much of the "rebuild" and future of the franchise.  Snow should be relieved of his duties immediately but I'm more curious to see what he gets in return for AMac and Vanek and what he does with Bailey at this point.

Vicp73
Vicp73

Wow even Amac is telling this franchise to go F-themselves!! What does that really tell you about the direction this Franchise is headed in. This team needs a culture change now more then ever!

wangbegone
wangbegone

Does any if this stuff really matter at this point?

Has no one here figured out that this "rebuild" is perpetual and won't end until Wang sells?

Why else would Snow even have the privilege of getting to try to make these deals?

I'm just curious, who's actually going to the dog-and-pony show tonight?

I'm sorry 4/16 is a very fair contract for a very over rated defensemen. Now he has to be traded. What Garth can get for him remains to be seen. Especially since he's a helmet.

I'd be real interested in what that substantial offer was that Garth Snow turned down for Amac. I really think a 7 year 50 million dollar contract offer to Vanek is very fair just like a 4 year 16 million dollar offer to McDonald is more then fair.

puckznpadz

All this news has just given the fans like myself attending tonight's game a good reason to welcome ALAC and Vanek with open arms...I can't waiting. Screw us...No Screw you !!!!

puckznpadz
puckznpadz

AMac is more like ALac...at best this guy is worth 2.5 to 3 mill a year.  People talk about how he is over used?  If you are looking for 5 mill you better be seeing big minutes and producing.  We have heard nothing be how over used he is...that he is being asked to do more than what he is capable of...To me that equals 2.5 to 3 mill per.  If some other schmuck wants to pay more take'em. He will turn out like the rest of those Ex-Isles thinking they are worth more than they truly are. At best he is number 2 pair defenseman on our team that puts him down to a No.3 Pairing on a good team.

So with Amac wanting out, Vanek wanting out and Moulson already gone, the ship is sinking, when does JT make his trade request?

Now...with this Garth did the right thing..he offered more than a fair deal, and the guy rejected it....and WE as fans now know he doesnt want to be an Islander...bye bye Amac..on this good job Garth...BUT it does show that there is a culture problem with isles..the players themselves dont believe in the rebuild and what the koolaiders are pushing on the rest of us....the salesman (Snow) is not good enough to sell the Islanders and the area and the future to his own personnel let alone UFAs

jimmydev

@Brandon Hillman  I agree Hickey and his inability to put up offensive numbers along with not being able to move anyone in from of the net on penalty kills should be dealt no upside!

Ralph Marchionna
Ralph Marchionna

Mayfield and and Pedan will not be with Isles to start season. Pulock probably not also. So you need hickey and strait. You can have Dehann Donavan hamonic Vis Reinhart hickey strait Carlene to start season. Hopefully they pick something up at deadline here or over summer to replace #5,6,7

Brandon Hillman
Brandon Hillman

@TonyM don't forget Mayfield and Pulock. Mayfield should be called up as soon as amac is dealt. He is a plus 6 listed at 6'4''. D-first guy with a big shot.

@Vicp73  It's called negotiations.  Rangers offered Callahan 30 mil and he turned it down. He wants 42… suddenly the Rangers float the "leak" that Callahan is "on the block".  Maybe he is… maybe not… but it's a negotiation.

@Matthew Boily  Good move Garth!  Don't give in, he's not a $4+ million defender.  Gonna be sad to see him go, I like his minutes, but he's out of his mind.

Matthew Boily

@mrcisback Fair wasn't going to get you Vanek. Garth had to know that from the start. Everyone else did. Fair should have gotten AMAC however.

gowhale
gowhale

@David Rosenthal  I doubt JT is considering going anywhere.  Garth gave up the farm to get him a top-flight winger, and in the long-run it was quite an improvement over Moulson.  This is a business, and like JT I believe this team has great potential.  Just wait until these blue liners are NHL ready.

AMac wanting to test the market is not inicative of a sinking ship.  That's much too dramatic.

puckznpadz
puckznpadz

@David Rosenthal David that is the real question.  If this team is in the same situation this time next year, the JT trade request and rumors will be off the charts and who can blame him.  He cannot do it himself.  For me if that happens I cut all ties with this team. As one Seinfeld episode once played "I'm out!".

army72
army72

@David Rosenthal Teams lose players every year. They want to test the market or don' t like  team's direction etc....Every team goes through it. Garth has made attempts in getting players here. The isles have been so bad so long its difficult to obtain players through the free agent.  You can be the best salesman but, like you mention the culture has to change.  I've  said this before...you have one of the best players in the world you need to build around him now. trade some of those picks prospects and get nhl talent....enough with potential talent. JT is about to hit his prime get him the players to play with......starting with a number one goalie.

Vicp73
Vicp73

@doc942 @Vicp73  Oh is that what it's called? I thought it was more like I'm a horrible GM and i can't attract any relevant free agents so i'll overpay for a below average blueliner. C'mon man you watch every game, your telling me that guy is worth more the 2.5 to 3 million? Question, if Kenny Holland is GM here, do we have issues signing FA's? Probably not

Matthew Boily
Matthew Boily

@gowhale I mean...the Islanders can use him because our defense is terrible. He should be a second pair defensemen....But he's not worth 5 million. Thats just ridiculous

puckznpadz
puckznpadz

@David Rosenthal @puckznpadz why because it is for family reasons? because he is being selfish in wanting to test free agency? There is every reason to boo the man.  The fans welcomed him with open arms in the collie.  I do not think it would be classless to boo Vanek.  You wanna play the game you have to deal with it.

David Rosenthal
David Rosenthal

@gowhale @David RosenthalNot a sinking ship...vanek wants out, amac wants out, no free agents want to come here..we are at the bottom again...nope no sinking ship...just wait until those blue liners are ready...thanks needed a good laugh, is this wave 2 or 3 of future stars under Garth...so we wait 2-3 years for these guys to be nhl read...year 11 of rebuild...jt contract up...KO already 30 at that point...then what?..rebuild again? in the long run it was an improvement...not even the biggest koolaider would say Vanek was a long term improvement seeing as he is leaving after a few months

David Rosenthal
David Rosenthal

@army72 @David RosenthalAgree but the salesman is not good enough to get JT players, and by the time the next wave of potential gets here JT's contract will be nearly up and KO will be 30..thats how long we have been in this rebuild. The culture is one of losing even after last year, Garth had a chance to change it and failed miserably. As far as free agents go...in 2006 Sillinger Witt and Poti  (and set the table for Kozlov coming in) were all sought after and Neil Smith got them to play here....Neil Smith had better connections and knew what he was doing...he also drafted KO...yes after years of rebuild, our 2nd best player was drafted by Neil Smith...ask yourself this...why was Neil Smith able to do that...and Garth (with new arena, a playoff appearance, and JT) cannot.

David Rosenthal
David Rosenthal

@puckznpadz @David RosenthalThey didnt offer Vanek a raise, it was an insulting offer....if they offered him 60+ then yes boo him, but they didnt even offer a raise, would you accept such an offer? Amac on the otherhand was offered well above his current salary by the team he came up with....and turned it down, clearly does not want to be here

puckznpadz
puckznpadz

@David Rosenthal @puckznpadz I don't think so because the media coverage back then is not what it is today and every little thing is out there.  I don't think a team is desperate enough to pay that wage.  Back in the day you could hide things and make a deal like that happen.  Not in today's market.

Vicp73
Vicp73

David Rosenthal

@doc942 @David Rosenthal@army72He was on the job 6 weeks sillinger and witt and poti (1 yr) were sought after and each played well for isles the next 2 years..witts contract was extended by snow...and sillinger got hurt before year 3....witt did not wear out his welcome he was a UFA and wash was rebuilding...nash acquired him for theplayoffs...yes those are shining samples bec it was the beginning...he had to rebuild the team, and he built that 2007 team...he also didnt want anything to do with DP...had smith stayed on he wouldve signed others too...who has snow signed that were better than those guys in his 8 yrs?

doc942
doc942

@David Rosenthal @army72  Silinger, Witt, Poti and Kozlov?  Those are the shining examples of how a "real" GM attract FA's?  Witt wore out his welcome in Washington (traded at the deadline I believe to Nashville) Silinger was at the end of his career and Poti - people shook their heads in disgust when the Islanders signed him (he did play fairly well though) and Koslov was one of those low risk high reward guys… had one very good season and left.

If you told me he signed Shanahan, Rafalski and Holmstrom… I might be impressed.
