Larry Brooks in the NY Post says that Mike Sullivan pushed for the Rangers to acquire Steve Eminger in the off-season.
…If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. The pair has been solid all around and I think almost everyone has come around on Steve Eminger. There is no point to adding a player on defense who isn’t going to be better than what they have playing, or Matt Gilroy, just because his blade curves a different way. Unless the Rangers can get a higher quality player, who also shoots lefty, they should stick with what they have.
Maybe swapping Matt Gilroy for a spare left shooting defenseman is the move, just to have option.
