I told Wilk....Dis what he need to do.  He gonna need the magic shoes then he's gonna have to click he feet together and close his eyes and say there's no place like home there's no like home.

Trading Revis, Keyshawn and Abraham all made sense. Revis wanted QB money, Keyshawn wasn't worth what he wanted and Abraham did not fit the new defensive scheme.

If I remember right wasn't Bradysucks all for overpaying the available FAs this off season, which would guarantee the Jets not being able to keep Wilkerson, Coples and Richardson. I doubt if the Jets keep all three regardless. But in this NFL you can't keep or pay everyone.

Love Big Mo....

Too bad Jets are gonna trade him

Revis, Keyshawn, Abraham.....need I say more.???

Woody Johnson won't pay ANY of his stars(all pros) big money....They take less.....or they leave

It's a BUSINESS ......

Is it me or does it look like Ryan Lindly is crying in the picture above?

Technically, everytime Wilk gets snubbed (Pro Bowl, Media top 100s) the Jets have to pay him less. That's why his snubs are bittersweet to me.

No one is talking about the roll over cap as part of the new CBA. With the Jets being over 25 million under cap this year, with no significant salary increases coming in 2015, they may be close to 55M under the cap next year. Also, as part of the CBA, you can roll over the money but have to spend a certain amount over a specified amount of time. We may have been disappointed with FA in 2014 but 2015 and beyond look much brighter.

Off topic, but apparently the Cleveland Browns are banning the media from their rookie minicamp.

Teams can do that? WHY HAVEN'T WE BEEN DOING THAT ALL ALONG?

The real race is between Cimini & Mehta, to see who gets the top salary among the Jets' beat writers! Snarky Twitter feed titles are one thing, but in this competitive market, ya gotta GET PAID, to get respect!

It's clear both are going to have to up their demands of the Daily News & ESPN, respectively, AND HOLD OUT and not write ANY story or posts about the Jets -- well into the season, if need be, to make their case & get their money!

Support the Cimini / Mehta Hold-Outs!!! No Money / No Writing!!!

Would a 5 year, 60 million dollar deal be too much for him? With something like 40 guaranteed?

hope he's not unreasonable, but he will want fair market value

@bradysucks  Jesus, it's like PTSD with you.  Stop treating your new girlfriend like crap because your previous girlfriend broke your heart.

Woosah, bradysucks.  Woosah.  It'll be okay.

@bradysucks  They couldn't afford to keep Abraham and did really well to get what they did for him.  Similar situation with Keyshawn.  And, at a lower level, Santana Moss.

They can afford Wilkerson.
And they gave Brick and Mangold league best contracts at their positions and were criticized for overpaying the likes of Harris, Sanchez and Holmes...and kept Curtis Martin here until he retired.

@borisjets  If the Jets play the "he hasn't even been a pro bowler" card, then the agent will just play the "he was an all-pro" card.  He'll get his due.

@dabronx  We won't be 25m over when all is said and done.  You end up spending $5-10m on injured guys and dead money on cuts by the time the season is over.  They'll probably carry over $10-15m barring any unexpected trades to take on salary or anything like that.

@dabronx

I mean, that's what people said going into this year. But, we do eventually have to spend the money otherwise Goodell will get pissy. The 53 definitely figures to be a big step up from the recent past in the near future.

Bent

@jmactheman  I think you can do that at rookie camp, but not OTA's or training camp where the media is entitled to a minimum amount of access.  Obviously with Tebow we didn't have him for rookie camp.

@metjetnet  Seriously. Manish especially. Does the NYDN want to risk losing their top Jets beatwriter to ESPN AGAIN? C'mon Manish. Whatever your deal is, it's too team NYDN friendly.

@metjetnet  Cimini and Mehta holding out for more money would be so great.  It would be like the opposite of NFL replacement players: we'd all flock to the holes Mehta and Cimini left to watch the scabs, because those scabs are actually better than the "stars".

Bent

@metjetnet  Well, Manish already got promoted to NFL columnist (and continued to have exactly the same job).

I hope you're right Bent

The Jets were fortunate to draft Boss Hogg.......The Revis trade could have been a disater had they drafted another Gholston.....

When they were Jets I loved Revis, Abraham, and Keyshawn........I was sad to see them all go.......Hope I don't have to go through it again with Big Mo who is one of my favorite Jets of all time already

Woody Johnson has a habit of trading his best players

@Disgruntled Jets Fan

I will bet you that if Big Mo wants to be one of the 3 highest paid d-lineman in the NFL he is traded,,,,

Idzik and Woody are NOT big spenders....They set a price and won't budge no matter what the fans think

Bent

@juunit @dabronx  The rules about spending the money shouldn't really apply to the Jets because they have kept dead money at a minimum and spent up the cap or rolled forward the balance every year.

Even if you do break those minimum spend rules, the only penalty is that you have to distribute the shortfall among your players.

Love Calvin Pryor.....but I wanted the Jets to draft Manziel....

Think Manziel is a star in the NFL within 3 years......

Sweet. We can be like Knick fans and leave out letters. Like 'Antoni or Ama'e.

@Bent @juunit  You only need seven letters to spell Wilkerson:

@Bent @Paul Samuels  Cool, that price tag doesn't sound that unreasonable, and should leave room for Snacks and Copes future deals.

@Hanknaples  When you're done slapping yourselves on the back for Fonzie's amazing prediction, let me remind you that he said Revis would be gone at the end of his fourth season.  I specifically remember this because we went back and forth on this in one of those classic Hank conversations where you wouldn't accept what I was saying when I suggested there was no way Revis could walk after four years because the Jets controlled the option/buyback over the final two years of the deal.

He was with the Jets for six years and the Jets did extend his contract during that time.  Therefore your prediction was wrong.  You basically predicted Revis would not re-up with the Jets and he did.

@Hanknaples  Your son also said Vernon Gholston is a good LB....right now.

So, pardon me while I don't give a shred of credence to anything that looney toon has to say.

@Hanknaples  Wait, so when your son is commenting under your name, you are also sitting with him discussing it?

Hank, does your son exist? Or do you have a split personality? I'm worried

marcus81

@Hanknaples Revis was offered 10 years 120 mil and turned it down after his second hold out, if you can't sign players, best to trade while you can get value back, hope Wilkerson can be kept

Bent
Bent moderator

@Hanknaples @Bent

If that's not what you're saying then you must be implying that Tannenbaum was fired because he landed the team in cap hell, but in case you've not noticed, they signed a bunch of players over the last two seasons, committed hardly any money to future years and are STILL almost $25m under the cap.  Turns out they had plenty of cap flexibility just like I said all along.

He wasn't - he was fired because of bad personnel decisions on the likes of Sanchez, Holmes and Gholston.

Bent
Bent moderator

@Hanknaples  Tannenbaum was fired because of the Revis extension?  That's a new one on me.

Bent
Bent moderator

@Hanknaples  The run went between the tackles and you're still criticizing the defense end and OLB for not keeping contain, thereby proving that you don't know what that phrase means.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@Hanknaples  I'd ask what you think is wrong with giving Mo Wilkerson, one of the 5-10 best defensive players on the planet, a deal in line with the marketplace for defensive superstars (which he is), but I truly and honestly don't care what your rationale is, because your rationale is the incorrect one ten times out of nine and the world is better off not knowing what you think about anything.
