5:29PM: Brian Boyle told the Rangers website that Fast is a mature player who has been able to handle everything so far easily. He said that Fast is the same kind at all times and that on the ice he is impressive to watch.
3:35PM: Larry Brooks notes that Vigneault’s nickname for Fast is “quickie.”
10:31AM: Jesper Fast will make his NHL debut tonight when the Rangers take on the Phoenix Coyotes
Fast told the team’s website that just because he made the team out of camp, now isn’t the time to relax and that he has to work even harder to keep his spot.
Alain Vigneault said on Wednesday that he has been impressed with Fast’s hockey sense and ability to know where to be and what to do when he doesn’t have the puck.
Leslie Treff writes at HF Rangers that Fast is a player who attracts the puck and makes things happen when he gets it. She questions whether he is an NHL ready at this time but admits that he deserves a shot based on how his preseason went. Treff says that unless Fast can adapt to the NHL game very quickly, it’s more than likely he will get sent to Hartford if/when a player like Chris Kreider is able to return.
