John Tortorella said yesterday, that the decision on who to play hinges on a few factors, “Who you are playing against, where you are playing. Process for the players. I have been interested to get a look at Mashinter. He is an interesting one to me.
Hockey’s Future wrote of Mashinter in June 2012, “The hulking winger plays with physicality and grit and works well down low along the boards and around the net.” They add that Mashinter needs to spend more time in the dirty areas of the ice and stop thinking like a sniper. They have him projected out as a bottom six checking line forward.
They wrote, in September 2012, that Mashinter could develop into a lower scoring version of Milan Lucic and be an energy/toughness player in the NHL.
He is 6-4, 220.
Mashinter has played 13 games in the NHL, has zero points, and three fights.
He has seven fights in the AHL this season and three of them have come since he joined the Whale. Mashinter has 11 points in 14 games since being acquired.
