Read: Did John Tortorella Lose His Chance At Coaching Team USA in 2014?

Early on in the playoffs, Steve Simmons, wrote in the Toronto Sun that John Tortorella’s reputation had been severely damaged and that “if he had any ambition to coach the U.S. Olympic team in 2014, well, he can probably forget about it now.”

He writes that Tortorella was thought to be the favorite to follow Ron Wilson as coach of Team USA in 2014, but now it is likely to be Peter Laviolette or Dan Bylsma.

From the Toronto Globe and Mail, Bruce Dowbiggin writes, “The thinking goes that Team USA officials don’t want the extra headaches of a combustible coach at an Olympics. There are enough problems without getting the entire media corps on your case, too. Gee, the media keeping a coach from getting a prestigious hockey gig? What is this, Montreal? ”

Laviolette was the head coach of the 2006 Team USA team in Torino.

Adam Rotter: I was under the impression that Bylsma was going to coach the team in 2014. That is nothing against Torts, I had just always heard Bylsma’s name mentioned much more than I heard Torts’. Torts was an assistant in 2010 and maybe he would be again, especially since it seems like many Rangers, Ryan McDonagh, Ryan Callahan, Derek Stepan and maybe Chris Kreider, will be represented on that team.
