Note: Henrik Lundqvist is in net tomorrow and 50/50 for Saturday

Henrik Lundqvist

5PM: Lundqvist said today (Rangers):

  • “the biggest goal that I have in my hockey career right now is to win the Stanley Cup. It’s exciting to think about and a big challenge for everyone in here. That is why we play. We enjoy this game but the best part is when you win and that is what drives you.”
  • “sometimes it surprises me when someone talks about championships because we aren’t playing tennis or golf, this is a team sport and you need to be good but also part of a great team to win. You need to have timing as well when you play a team sport, to play on a team that gets on a roll. As a goalie I have a big part but it’s not tennis or golf. It’s not just you it’s about getting everything to work together and going from there.”
  • On how he feels about the team, “it’s a process and I appreciate the patience that hte coahces showed early on because it took some time. I am proud that we overcame that and get back in and here we are and giving ourselves an opportunity to play in the playoffs. It’s been an interesting year and a year where you learn a lot about the team and yourself. A lot of ups and learn every year and each year is different. The team is different, new coach, new system so each year you have a different feel because the results are different and I try to learn every year.”

2:14PM: Alain Vigneault said after practice today that Henrik Lundqvist will start tomorrow against Buffalo but is 50/50 for Saturday’s game in Montreal. (Rangers)

When asked earlier in the week if he wants to consider resting at the end of the season, Lundqvist said “not really….we will have enough days to get ready for the playoffs but whatever they think is better for the group, I will go with it…..It’s crazy to think that the regular season is over on Saturday. It’s been an interesting year and the roller coaster of emotions and the ups and downs and you learn from it.”

Lundqvist said last night on MSG that he is trying to play the proper way now so that he doesn’t have to make any changes when the playoffs start next week. He said, “you can’t take any shortcuts, you need to focus the same way and take each game as an important game. Who knows, it could play a huge part in the end if we get the extra points at the end and get a better spot.”
