Buzz: The Future Of The Rangers AHL Team In Hartford Is Up In The Air

According to Paul Doyle in the Hartford Courant, the Rangers deal with the XL Center in Hartford and management company AEG’s deal with the building expire after this season.

Doyle says that the Rangers have been unable to try and negotiate an extension because they don’t have a management company to negotiate with.

AHL President Dave Andrews says that the league has been working with the Rangers on finding a potential new home for the Rangers AHL affiliate if they can’t return to Hartford.

The Rangers, if they can’t return to Hartford, will look for a new location that geographically makes sense.

On twitter, Doyle spoke with Rangers assistant GM and Whale GM Jim Schoenfeld who said that geographically, Hartford is perfect for the Rangers.

Schoenfeld told Doyle that the Rangers are just doing their “due diligence” in looking around and haven’t made any decisions yet.

The city of Hartford owns the XL Center and they plan to make a decision on a new management company for the building soon.

There have been rumblings over the past few seasons about the Rangers leaving Hartford.

John Tortorella has said in the past that he likes how close the Rangers AHL team is.

Thanks, I did miss that. Do you think his ceiling is higher than cumby?

@funkymonk

Anyone know the early word on next year's TE draft class?

Yes, that early word is "bad".

(BTW, Maneri and Davis can catch, they're just not top-shelf pass catchers.  As blocking TEs, they catch fine.  I will grant that Amaro and Cumby are crappy blockers, though.)

Potentially - Cumberland's athletic numbers might be slightly better but Saxton's junior season was way more productive than Cumberland ever was in college.

That disappointing senior year is troublesome, but as I noted there are several reasons for this.  Maybe that led to the Jets getting themselves a bargain.  We'll see.

Really the least surprising news of the summer.

Last year of his contract and he definitely won't be healthy until the next league year, so any team that put in a claim would have to pay him $585K (either by keeping him on the roster or by waiving him themselves and adding him to IR).

The only possible benefit would be that if he was then signed by another team next year, that team would get the compensatory pick - although he'd have to qualify (by making a team) in the first place.  Nobody's locking up a roster spot temporarily and shelling out almost $600K just for that.

@levi @tsjc68

As Bent and I have pointed out repeated, Calvin Pryor just gave Zach Sudfeld his full 585k salary on a platter.  He wasn't going to see that money if he was healthy and cut in camp.

Now he gets all of it.

@tsjc68  You'd have to ask him if it was worth it. Im sure playing in the NFL is his dream and is likely over now.

@tsjc68  We'll never know. If Cumby or Amaro get hurt in camp he likely would have seen some play time. He also may have played well in the new system and earned a spot. I doubt he is sending a thank you card to Pryor either way.

@tsjc68 Was never a fan of Sudfeld, but you don't wanna see a guy get hurt like that.

Does anyone have any type of info on the hit?  My guess is Pryor hit him low when he was going up for a pass.

Just to make a giant leap here - Pryor was talking about being an enforcer and being intimidating, etc.  I hope he didn't cheap shot him.  Unwritten rule that receivers prefer to get hit high, rather than be taken out at the knees.  Something you shouldn't do on a teammate.

The twitterati made it sound like it was an unnecessary hit, but it wasn't actually violent.  Like, Pryor gave Sudfeld a shove while he was off-balance, coming down or something.

@tsjc68 @t__k its an ACL - Pryor's push could have had nothing to do with it at all....mine popped in the middle of a field by myself....so have countless other people's.  But lets bash Pryor bc he a bust after 16 games...

Me and my son were just debating, he says the Jets defense is over hyped and that the Giants potent offense will roll right over us  when we play this season. He says offense will beat defense 90% of the time now days in a league that favors the offense. OY, I can't wait for that game, we need payback after they ruined our post season hopes a few years ago with that freaken salsa dance! OMABs!

@UncleJoe He says he says he says. Who cares what one random Giants fan says?

@roadyhorns @UncleJoe It's a shame because if the Jets had just kept Harvin and given Geno a full offseason with him, they would be great.

UncleJoe
UncleJoe

@roadyhorns @UncleJoe It works both ways, I remember last season Geno right in several of these games until the D surrendered all those passing TDS, over 30, and 11 traveled over 30 yards in the air for tds, the most in Rexs entire tenure with the jets! The secondary was in shambles, so maybe the offense and d will work together to yield success!!!

@UncleJoe

Can't wait to see how the defense turns out under Bowles.  We've got a lot of great pieces, but that doesn't guarantee they'll all work together under Bowles' system.  Unfortunately, a great defense won't matter much if our offense is giving the opponent the ball at the 30 yard line.  Geno will probably be just as bad as he's been, so the defense will probably be the world's biggest cannon, packed with the world's wettest gun powder.

Hey guys, get all your Zimbabwe dollars ready. They're officially being decommissioned, and you can trade every 35 quadrillion you have for $1 USD.

Better hurry.

Mugabe just needs a few more years in office to finish putting the reforms in place, he'll get this thing turned around, keep the faith.

@juunit

Just before their currency tanked, I had a member of the royal family contact me randomly to ask if I'd accept transfer of roughly $55 million USD.  He said he'd pay me 10%.  I had to put up some money upfront, but it was only a few hundred thousand, so I figured, what the heck.  Turned out to be a really nice, honest guy.  He saved his money and I made a great commission for doing nothing.  Sometimes you just have to trust people.

Off topic...the Yankees effing suck

@J. Smooth Terry stinks. The players try for him, but that's not enough by itself.

Brendan

@BDarc23 The Mets aren't much better, but they are somehow clinging onto 1st.

J. Smooth
J. Smooth

@Brendan @BDarc23 They're actually starting to get hot. Winning games out of grit. And they'll be getting some reinforcements soon, Murphy, Mejia, and Black for starters.

Brendan
Brendan

@J. Smooth I do like that they're not giving up and scoring late game runs again.

The kids aren't bad, it's fcking Terry and Sandy and the rest who just keep holding themback longer than they need to.

Brendan
Brendan

@BDarc23 Those two bullpen arms are needed desperately. The Mets pitch the Torres brothers (Alex and Carlos) pretty much every game. Alex is good, but his arm is going to fly off into the stands pretty soon if they don't find another reliable arm.

BDarc23
BDarc23

@Brendan @BDarc23 If you guys think Mejia is going to be as good without PEDs you are nuts. He will be costing games.

J. Smooth

@Brendan @J. Smooth I used to be ambivalent towards Terry but am now starting to lean towards the dark side with him. Why Granderson remains in RF with a Chad Pennington arm mystifies me.

I was hoping that they'd get to October and then get swept by the Astros by a collective score of 133-0.

@BDarc23 I am indifferent towards the Yankees, but I have noticed that the longer the season goes the more they notice the Mets (and therefore comment on them). You guys are cool with me, though.

@J. Smooth @BDarc23 @Brendan

He only used once..like Pettitte. Little fact is Pettitte's father was convicted of trafficking PEDs in Houston area--plea bargained by turning on others.  Soon to have a plaque.  But he only used once--and people believe him!!! Dumb.

@Brendan @J. Smooth Terry does stink, but why didn't Sandy take a chance on Cruz last year as opposed to Grandy...I'll never understand that.

Brendan
Brendan

@SackDance99 Preaching to the choir on this one. I couldn't understand that, but I believe it was a financial thing where the Mets would have had to pay a penalty or something.

SackDance99
SackDance99

@Brendan @SackDance99 I never heard that, all I know is that Cruz signed a 1-year "show me" contract and hasn't stopped mashing homeruns.  An $8 million 1-year deal.  Grandy?  $60 million for 4 years...so Grandy for that 1 year was 50% more expensive.  Oh, and Cruz's contract with the Mariners is 4 years $57 million.

Excuse me while I light my hair on fire...
