Buzz: Could The Rangers AHL Team End Up Playing At The Nassau Coliseum?

Madison Square Garden is currently one of a few groups competing for the right to renovate and run the Nassau Coliseum.

MSG plans to spend $250 million to renovate the arena and create an entertainment complex around the arena.

According to the Hartford Courant, part of MSG’s proposal includes bringing one of their teams, NY Liberty, Erie Bayhawks (NBA D League) or Connecticut Whale to to the Coliseum.

The Courant says that this is still very early in the bidding process and that the Whale were mentioned as part of a non-specific pitch that show what MSG has to offer.

Also part of their bid is for exhibition games and open practices for the Rangers and Knicks to be held at the Coliseum. The planned renovations would not be complete until 2017 or 2018.

The Whale, who will be renamed the Wolf Pack, have a deal to stay in Hartford for three more seasons and then two, one-year options.

The Islanders are moving to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2015.
