BUZZ: Wade Redden Plans To Go To Training Camp

According to Arthur Staple in Newsday, Wade Redden plans to attend the Rangers training camp in September.

He spent all last season in Hartford with the Wolfpack/Whale after being sent down in September. He had a tremendous mustache there. More on Redden after he was sent down, here.

Redden still has three more seasons left on his contract worth $6.5 million per season.

While in Hartford, all reports were that Redden was a great pro and leader.

Redden has said repeatedly that money isn’t an issue to him.

This isn’t a big deal. Redden will go to training camp with the Rangers, but the issue will be what happens after they place him on waivers to send him down to Hartford. If he refuses the move and voids his contract, he loses the money but gets a chance to be a free agent and play again in the NHL. Otherwise he can go back to Hartford and be a leader for the young players down there.

I know he's as old as dust, but I'd give Ray Whitney a 1 year 1 million deal. I think given some ice he'd get 50 points and be an asset on the PP.

All season long people are complaining we have no goalie and snow trades for the rights to negotiate for Halak and yet people still complain about this move. Regardless if he signs him or not it was a no brainier of a move. A 4th round pick from Chicago (PMB and Regin) flipped to get 2 months to sign a very good goalie without interference from any other team. This is a goalie who wants to be the #1 goalie which not to many teams can offer, he will want a long term contract especially after be traded 3 times this year. His agent stated there is interest and it appears to be a good fit for both sides. I think they sign him before the draft.

Kirk Muller just got canned in Carolina, try to hold the tears. Accountability.

People are questioning why would Halak sign here early instead of going to UFA in July, the answer is stability. Not stability in the Islanders organization, but the stability in having a team/deal and not waiting for dominos to fall. The 2 Big UFA goalies Miller and Hiller will be who teams target first, so Halak will have to wait to see were they go first and then will be given an offer slightly less $/yrs than what these more established goalies received. Then you factor in the Reimer availability  factor, who might be more attractive to some teams, so Halak will also have to factor that into possible UFA negotiations. Then people have said Pitt will be in the goalie market, well that not be true if MAF keeps playing well.  Think back a couple of seasons Thomas Voukon held out on the UFA market, ended up signing a 1yr deal in Washington, epic fail, only to sign his next deal as a backup in Pitt. So as unstable as Islander organization might be, the stability of guaranteed deal before the market is open is a lot more appealing than one might think.

all these easy to please fans are jumping for joy over the halek trade. why? he isn't a member of the team is he? if and when he signs him then ok give snow credit if you want to. i wouldn't because you still don't know how it will turn out. given snows track record it will probably be a bust just like all his other moves. thats right you can evaluate a trade after the fact. just like you can evaluate a stock picker or a movie producer after the fact. you judge him on his track record. he gets paid big bucks and has big responsibility for a reason. he is not allowed to seek cover in the ole "hindsight, 20-20 excuse". he gets judged by his track record and snow's track record is horrible. until and IF his record ever turn around then i might give him the benefit of the doubt but if it looks like a cow and smells like a cow then i will assume it is one.

a common theme=snow should be given plaudits and applause for trying to win or in this case the halek trade. that is utter nonsense just like the sentiment i heard that said snow should be given credit for the vanek trade because he tried. this is all laughable. all that matters is results. snow gave up a first and second next year as well as mouslon who was worth more than vanek by himself at the trade deadline. these picks could and most likely will turn into at least a top five and quite possible a one or two and future superstar. it could be one of the worse trades in the history of the NHL. yet snow is being give credit for trying to win. never mind that he falls flat on his face in his attempt all that matters to some very easy to please fans here is that he tried.

Teams can only be as good as their leadership. As many have said, for as long as Wang owns this team, no good times are imminent.

tbh it's hard to see what difference it should make to halak who holds his rights up to july 1.  unless it's a perfect situation and an unbeatable offer, he's under no pressure to take it.  for the islanders, i guess this means at least a seat at the table, since otherwise halak might hardly have answered the phone.  and it's a gesture to the fans to say 'we're really trying.'  but honestly, there's nothing here to say unless halak signs.  for now it's a nothing move.

They don't need just one goalie. To me they need three capable tenders. Let's say Nabby is the backup, they will also need an AHL goalie on a two way contract to be able to come in and handle maybe 5-10 games in the year due to injure. I was thinking maybe Joey MacDonald. And if no Nabby how about Chad Johnson as the number two. To me they need three. MacDonald in the minors and come up as needed. Or someone of thAt ilk. AHl team needs to be good next year too. Too many dMen trying to learn the game.

@fan42long

No more trying guys who are 35+ to see if they have one last go in them, I rather live and die with the "Kids" than bring in a Snow "seasoned veteran presence"

Makes too much sense to bring in a guy like lewis.this is wangland baby.

@tag1 Dave Lewis was let go as well. I think We should grab him immediately.

He has one hell of a resume with the Red Wings, he is a defensive coach and we could use someone with his experience.

@jmoney93

I pray Snow doesn't screw around and they lose Halak, that would be a 'necktie party' offense.

j_spikett
j_spikett

@jmoney93  its not going to matter. this team will be a bottom 5 again next year or more likely even worse. snow does not have the capability of doing better. this team and the fans will always be in bondage as long as wang is owner

gleichzahl

@j_spikett  you might be right.  but you can't write pbl this and pbl that in one post, and then in the next say that moves have to be evaluated after the fact.  you're all over the place, literally with the number of posts and metaphorically with the double standard of your reasoning.

at the moment the halak trade is nothing.  so as much as you dislike snow you have to hold your fire at least a little longer.  and the vanek trade hasn't turned into 'at least a top five' yet either.  so take a deep breath.

Not me im not giving him any cudos he doesn't deserve any. Not after moulson vanek collberg.

@gleichzahl  true but theres no reason in any scenario where his agent has to have courtesy to the isles fans to say that halak is interested.  for him to say that, there has to be at least some interest to me.  its not like he was a part of the team and has to say the right things to the fans here.  they could have just kept quiet after the trade, but his agent specifically said he has interest in playing here.  that has to mean something, no?

@rmreturns did any of them amount to anything?  I remember Kris Beech for whatever reason,

If you have time to waste contorting yourself looking for excuses to explain the gross incompetence perpetrated by  the Clown Posse that owns this mess, maybe you can look up the record for consecutive seasons played without winning a playoff round.  Gotta be getting close to that record.

@RM. Your pushing it man, I know your trying to make the point there have been worse trades than Vanek but frankly that doesn't matter. It was bad, move on.

@shlo @rmreturns nothing...right off the bat, moulson was more valuable then all three of those guys put together, not too mention the picks, but collberg....that's another story

Wang should be committed for hiring cappy and snow.

@tag1 He did say that Cappy will return, so what, he can change his mind. My wife changes her mind all the time.............if he has a problem I could send her there to show him how.

I think snow has already committed on having cappy start the season

@tag1 That's the idea, but I'll take it one more step, get rid of Cappy and put Lewis as a head coach.

"Too good to be true" move.

I'm guessing as always with us money would be a issue. I wonder what Lewis was making in Carolina and compare that to what the Isles coaching staff is making but he would be a perfect hire.

@rmreturns  There was once a beetle who thought it was a good idea to eat the leaves of a tree. What the beetle didn't know was there comes a time when those leaves wilt and die. They fall to the ground and wait to be raked, but sometimes they fall in a place where there is a man with no garden tools. They just sit there in place until they may blow in the wind, but sometimes they're in a forest where the wind doesn't blow. The grasshoppers leap around trying to find a place to land, but the beetles who eat the leaves have disappeared. The man without garden tools wanders about the forest crunching the leaves with his feet, but then it starts to rain, and the leaves go soggy. Yes, the trees get to drink, and the leaves no longer crunch, but the man without garden tools didn't have an umbrella, either.
