In the NY Post, Larry Brooks writes that one of the reasons the Rangers felt like they could trade Tim Erixon was because they didn’t see him as a player who could succeed playing the way John Tortorella wants his defensemen to play.
Brooks notes that losing Erixon did seep the Rangers of their biggest piece of depth on defense.
The addition of Tim Erixon into the Rangers proposal to Columbus is reportedly what got the deal expedited and sent Rick Nash to the Rangers.
On the day of the trade, John Tortorella said of him “Erixon has potential, I haven’t seen it yet, to be a really good player.”
Adam Rotter: I think that Erixon is going to turn into a really good defenseman, but he couldn’t be the thing standing in the way of the Rangers getting Rick Nash. The immediate depth is hurt a little with the loss of Erixon, but the team still has Dylan McIlrath and Brady Skjei as high end prospects.
