Read: Sean Avery Doesn’t Think That He Will Get Called Back Up

Update: 3:51PM: A full quote from Avery on being called back up, via Howlings:

“Probably not,” Avery said of a possible return to Broadway. “I’m not even going to think about it. It’s like you’re going to win the lottery. I guess some people do, but I’ve never had that mentality. … I’m just going to go on, but I can play in the NHL, there’s no question about that. But I feel like a completely different player already. I’m just relaxed. This game is all mental.”

Avery also said that he turned down a lot of money from Russia.

Update: 3:44PM: On Avery, John Tortorella told the media in Vancouver:

“We go about our business here, and I know that’s a story I’m sure that’s going to be talked about a lot, because Sean was here and very well-liked, but again I’m coaching this hockey club here. Talk to Kenny (Whale coach Ken Gernander). I don’t know what’s going on down there. So I can’t comment on it.”

Original Post: At ESPN New York, Katie Strang spoke with Sean Avery and Avery said that he doubts he will get recalled by the Rangers.

“I’m not even going to think about it,” he said. “It’s like someone trying to win the lottery.”

Before flying back to NY, Avery said he had a brief discussion with John Tortorella, saying that “[Tortorella] told me it was his decision and that was pretty much it.”

Avery said that he didn’t think he got a fair shot in training camp either, “I’d say it’s pretty obvious.”

Glen Sather mentioned recently that Avery could get recalled. Avery was waived on October 4th.

John Tortorella said that the Rangers have better players than Avery and that is why he didn’t make the team.

So true. It's not like they've ever won 50 games in a season since he joined the team. Oh wait.

Knicks need to get rid of mello then they will win, they usually do when he's not playing

Fisher may or may not become a good coach - nobody knows because he has not done it before. One thing is sure, though: he will not look good with this talent- less roster. Luckily for him, he is pocketing 6 millions a year to 'soften the blow'

Fisher needs to be given some time with this group. It's not easy for veteran players to change their manner of play. I suspect the team will struggle in the beginning, but hopefully start to play consistently well within the system around Christmas.

I just worry about them defensively. That has to improve significantly for the Knicks to exceed expectations. Not sure they have it in them though .

I'm with Fisher main reason this is such a big deal is because all these stupid questions from the media...stop dwelling the spurs lost to a NON NBA TEAM......do u think San Antonio is questioning Pop and Duncan right now?!?....no but if this was 95 and that happened Ewing and Riley woulda be torched. The media needs to relax and let the story come to them not go fishing..... we won't be the first team ever to lose a pre season game and make the playoffs.

Media and fans gotta chill....Isaiah isn't here and Chaney isn't coaching

Knicks need to commit to the defensive end. Forget about perfecting the triangle for now. Concentrate on defensive effort and toughness. That can carry you through some ugly wins until the triangle philosophy clicks then you take it from there.

Wow Knicks fans are something else. For you to win games is to play as a team. That's what he's trying to say. Like the Miami Heat and Spurs been doing over the years. You guys are trashing him but he has more winning experience than the whole roster/ office combined except for Phil Jackson. I'm a die hard Knicks fan but who would u rather have Dolan run this team? You have winners in this organization. All the GM's we have they trade their draft picks for has been player. Most of the coaches we had, put players out there and don't produce. Wake up Knicks fans

The knicks need to learn how to play as a team, not need to learn how to win.

Derek Fisher will be fired after the season.

@nixter Was the core of this team talentless when they won 54 games, the division and made it to 2nd round? You are being a little dramatic.
