Earlier this week it was reported that Rangers winger Ryane Clowe has been cleared of his concussion symptoms and Pat Leonard writes in the Daily News that the Rangers are expected to resume talks of a new contract with Clowe.
Leonard says that Glen Sather was waiting for Clowe to be cleared by doctors before talking about a new contract.
He adds that with his concussion issues this past season the Rangers are expected to ask Clowe for a discount on the cap hit he had last season of $3.625 million.
Clowe suffered a concussion in the Rangers win over Carolina on 4/25 and returned to the lineup for game four against the Capitals.
In game five, Clowe played 1:55 and didn’t return for the rest of the playoffs after taking a hit from Jason Chimera that also resulted in a concussion.
On breakup day, Clowe said “I’m open to negotiate to find a way to stay here. I enjoyed it here. You start to develop a bond with the team and the guys. I feel like this team has the nucleus and core and you have Hank in the net. Everyone wants to win in NY.”
A new contract for Clowe would cost the Rangers a second round pick in next years draft.
57% of readers want Clowe to return depending on the contract that he signs.
