9:52AM: Today is a big day in the negotiations for Ryan Callahan’s contract extension. The goal is to have a deal in place today or a trade will be “really possible”. (Renaud Lavoie)

The feeling is that Callahan has made his move on the contract and it’s now up to the Rangers.

The Rangers practice at 12PM today.

I love and respect Cally but we need to think about the future. A first round pick (if we can get it) would set us up nicely. It seems like everyone around us got stronger today. I wonder if we are pursuing anything else right now?

Forget about Callahan for a minute. Whether we keep him or trade him, how come no one is talking about other trades? Is there no serious organizational talk of moving Stepan, Boyle, Miller, or someone else?

If it's for 6 years, it would've been okay if it was a 4.5 million per year deal. At the price it is now, 6 mil will be okay for 3 years. Six years shouldn't be an option.

Sather is about to doom this club and do irreparable damage for the next 6 years.  What a shame.

Terrible move if made. Will completely destroy the teams ability to sign other important players when their contracts run out as well. Trade him.

I'd honestly rather let him walk at the end of this season for nothing than sign him to this deal. I really hope they trade him.

If Sather signs another player for 6 years we are screwed for the forseeable future! Mean while everyone around us is getting better! the only Cup run this team is making is to Starbucks for a Grande!

Get ready for Drury 2.0. If Sather signs him, I have really lost hope in our GM (Not that I had that much beforehand)

Don't do it Sather, you already gave Girardi too many years. Giving Callahan the same type of contract will be the same as having Wade Redden and Chris Drury in a couple of years..

@ronbonjovi First off, Bon Jovi rocks! I think Callahan staying helps this team more when he is around, and I hope he re-signs, but with that said, we can't rely just on him for scoring, he has always been secondary scoring on this team. Nash is having an ok season, leads the team in goals, but only 28 points in 45 games, which is good for a 2nd liner. We need a stronger center to play with Nash, and Stepan is not the answer. Richards does not have good chemistry with Nash so it makes it very interesting if any deals will be in place.

@bigb22  That's what he does...we're all used to it.  The guy inherited Gretzky and Messier and has somehow made a 30 year career out of it.  I'd say he's the worst GM in sports history but I remember Isiah Thomas with the Knicks.

@Danny Maloney @bigb22  Sather has made some stupid moves, but he hasn't run this team into the ground. He just keeps us mediocre. To say he is one of the worst in history is a long shot.

@Jason Pontillo  Don't be jealous of the Blackhawks, in 2 years they'll have to fight to keep their 2 Best Forwards.   Hawks had #3 Pick in 2006 (Toews) and #1 Pick in 2007 (Kane), which Rangers will never get.   Soon as Jeff Gorton takes over for Sather and he has room within a bigger cap, he'll make much better moves than Sather has.  Keep the Faith Jason!!!!

@Daniel DHizzy Hizgilov @Danny Maloney @bigb22  I'd rather him run us into the ground, at least then things could perhaps rebound from this. I'm sick of this mediocrity!

I look at the Blackhawks and am jealous. After being run into the ground by old man Wirtz, his son has owned that team with one objective in mind and he's succeeded twice in the last 4 years more than we have in the past 74+
