Earlier this week, while talking about Ryan Callahan, John Tortorella said ,”Our team, our identity is what he is and we’re not going to change our identity. In all situations, offensively and defensively, I look up and down the bench for him.”
Yesterday, Tortorella expanded on his thoughts, saying, “I look up and down the bench for him in all situations. Now he has developed into quite a leader as far as his next progression. He identifies who we are so it’s nice to have him with a uniform on. When you get into the type of situation where a young man is wearing the “C,” I wasn’t sure how he was going to be coming to me as far as our relationship and communicating, I have gotten to know him better. I think that is very important with your leaders. That has gone on really smoothly. It has gone really well that way.
Callahan, in his first season as Rangers captain, finished with a career highs in goals, power play goals points and ice time per game.
