At NHL.com, Dan Rosen spoke with Ryan Callahan and the Rangers captain said that there hasn’t been any talk about a contract extension.
Callahan is entering the final year of his contract and can become a UFA on July 1.
The Rangers also need to sign Dan Girardi and Henrik Lundqvist to extensions next summer.
As of now, based on the upper limit of $64.3 million, the Rangers have $37 million in cap space. The salary cap is expected to rise next season.
Callahan could sign an extension similar to the one that Dustin Brown signed recently.
Adam Rotter: The Rangers top priority is to get Derek Stepan signed and then the focus will shift towards making sure Henrik Lundqvist never plays an NHL game for another team. Following that, Callahan and Girardi will get extensions but that most likely won’t get done until after the season starts.
