Winter Classic veteran Mike Rupp scored two goals last night in his eighth game back from knee surgery.
John Tortorella said, with a big smile, on his post game news conference on the NHL Network that he couldn’t be happier for Rupp after the season he has had, he is a “great” teammate and that he brings an intangible to the young core of the team as a veteran.
Rupp said earlier this year that he was thankful for the chance to join the team on road trips while he was injured.
Rupp was awarded the Broadway Hat following the win.
I have been a big Rupp supporter since he was signed and I think his game is finally coming along. I certainly didn’t see him scoring two goals, especially the slick first one, but he stepped up in a big moment. I loved seeing Brandon Prust basically jump into his arms after Rupp scored the second goal. I love that John Tortorella calls him a “glue guy.” He understands his role on the ice and his role in the locker room. He is a very valuable player.
