Through six games, Michael Del Zotto has two goals and four assists and ranks, as of last night, tied for third in scoring for defensemen.
Del Zotto is averaging 23:42 per game and in his last two games he has two goals, two assists and is a plus five.
Following the Rangers win over the Flyers on Tuesday, Joe Micheletti said that he is seeing Del Zotto take another step and that “his overall game has been tremendous.”
Dave Maloney added that Del Zotto has been “quick and alert” and those are two things that Del Zotto needs in his game.
All Del Zotto would say about his game, on MSG, is “as each day goes on I feel better and better.
Brian Leetch was asked by NHL.com what he sees in the Rangers top four defensemen and when he got to Del Zotto, Leetch said, “when I watch him reminds me a little bit of how I played. The way he sees the game, the way he jumps into the play. Things that he tries to create. Maturity wise he was playing some of his best hockey near the end of the year.”
The NY Times wrote of Del Zotto yesterday, “Del Zotto was superb over the game’s first 40 minutes. He scored in the first, his second goal in two games, added an assist on Callahan’s goal and continued his emergence as the Rangers’ best attacking defenseman. “
