Michael Del Zotto was a healthy scratch on Tuesday for the eighth time this season and Alain Vigneault said that Del Zotto’s offensive and PP talents have not been there enough on a consistent basis and because of that he can’t be assured of a spot in the lineup every night. (Daily News)
Vigneault says that Del Zotto’s assets are to be an offensive defenseman that can, “beat the forecheck, join the rush at the right time and help out on the PP.” He says that Del Zotto has brought those things at times this season but not on a consistent enough basis to lock him into a spot in the lineup. (Daily News)
Del Zotto has two goals and five assists this season which puts him fourth on the Rangers leaders for scoring by a defenseman.
He is a minus nine and has one goal and one assist on the PP this season while averaging 2:14 per game.
Adam Rotter: Del Zotto was supposed to be one of the main guys to benefit from Alain Vigneault becoming the coach and the opposite has happened. It’s probably a situation where Vigneault and the coaches have expressed to Del Zotto what they want him to do and he just doesn’t execute properly and, in most cases, turns the puck over or makes a bad read. His time with the Rangers is coming to a close, whether it’s via trade this season or in the offseason, it seems very likely that it will be the job of another coach to try and coax all the talent Del Zotto has out of him.
