Last summer Matt Gilroy was a free agent after the Rangers didn’t qualify him at $2.1 million.
Gilroy reportedly rejected the Rangers alternate offer of a two-year deal that was worth much less than his qualifying offer.
He went on to sign a deal with Tampa Bay and was traded to Ottawa to help them in their playoff push.
Prior to losing Gilroy, John Tortorella said to Rangers Report that he had an interest in seeing Gilroy return to the Rangers.
Gilroy signed a deal with the Whale yesterday.
