Tom and Steve: What does the injury to Marian Gaborik mean to the Rangers lineup for next season? Does this mean they will go harder after Zach Parise or Rick Nash?
Adam Rotter: I don’t know how much this really changes the approach to the offseason for the Rangers. I think the Rangers were going to try and add some scoring depth, not necessarily Zach Parise or Rick Nash, but players to fortify the second and third lines and I think that will still be the plan. Gaborik may only be out the first two months of the season, or he may not miss time at all if the season doesn’t start on time.
A guy like David Jones of Colorado, who I have heard the Rangers have had interest in before, and has 47 goals the last two seasons could be an option. Brad Boyes, who has really struggled since scoring 33 goals in 2009 could be a cheap option, or ageless wonder Ray Whitney who put up 77 points in 82 could be. The Rangers need scoring depth that goes beyond the top two lines and those are the kinds of players I think they will target.
Internal candidates could be Casey Wellman or if he has a big camp, Christian Thomas.
