Darren Dreger tweets that Mitchell is getting $1.1 million per season in Colorado.

Adam Rotter:
Good for John Mitchell to get a two-year deal. He worked hard to get called up and had some nice moments for the Rangers last season.

Any word on how our 3 automatic inactive have fared in practice? Do we have line depth for next year or are they just overmatched?  Thank you for your game analysis. The best.

"While his footwork and accuracy still lets him down from time to time and this means we’re realistically talking about a mediocre player at best..."

Huh, what?? A mediocre player at BEST??? (even realistically)

I have no clue or prediction how much Geno will improve but it's a little early for that kind of talk, no? I realize that the rest of your comments about him were very positive but I feel like  - at BEST - he could certainly be better than mediocre.

Also, thought Boss Hogg (sorry, not digging the other nickname, even for just when he plays on O) had a huge hole he could've run through on his last carry - believe it was created by Harrison. True?

Bent - your thoughts on rookie Revis v. rookie Milliner? Stats are very comparable; rookie Revis had 87T, 17PD, and 3INT; Milliner had 56T, 17PD, and 3INT. I don't really recall when Revis became _Revis_, and what the scuttle was coming out of his rookie year.

I have moderate optimism for Geno, but yesterday I noticed a recurrence of two tendencies that I'm not a huge fan of:

1)  Low passes, when inevitably end up with the receiver on the ground and no chance to advance.  Is he just trying to be safe and minimize the chance of a pick?  (Even though one of Dee's picks was low, though it was a psedo-trap)  This is mainly on the shorter throws, where we really need those YAC.

2)  The few plays a game where Geno sprints back like 10 yards right after the snap.  It puts him in a really difficult position to produce a gain - a checkdown or a screen here still risks a significant loss, and I end up just hoping for a throwaway/incompletion.  Is this in the actual play design?

Are blast chillers even a thing in America? I've heard of blast furnaces, and things being flash frozen, but blast chiller sounds like a British thing. And despite how great BGAs always are, the key part of nicknames is that they are better than the name he already has. Which is why Douzable will never get a nickname that isn't a play on his last name and Boss Hogg will stay Boss Hogg in my mind until those Duke boys pull off a miracle to make a better name.

I noticed it was another perfect year in terms of snaps from Mr. No Respect, Tanner Purdum. Just sayin'.

Also, it was great to see Lankster back on specials -- his (and Trufant's) contributions on coverage have been pretty decent this year. Any thoughts on what they do for a kick returner next year? Goodson?

And thanks for all your work and analysis, my friend. Hope your holidays have been happy!

cut cro and use the money on Alterraun Verner. cro was due to make 14 mill next year so even if we sign verner for 10 a year we are still saving money.

I don't see how the Jets can take the risk that Cromartie will round back into #1 form. Are there any top CBs expected to be available that can be considered an upgrade?

I like Reed and would like him to come back. That being said I noticed 3 times in the first half where he shied away from contact and it resulted in extra yardage for the ball carrier. He made up for it with his 3rd pick in a handful of games but that could become costly.

Thanks for another season of great analysis! We are fortunate to have you amongst us!

Every time I focused on it, the Dolphins had 6 guys in pass protection. Could you break down the numbers used by them in Pass pro and the results for each scenario?

There was one play on offense where one of the Jets pass protectors got knocked backwards and literally looked like he was on roller skates, would you know who this was? The TV coverage switched to a Steelers update instead of showing a replay.

Do you think Landry should be back? I think if we bring Reed back we don't need Landry.....

Do you think it is a good idea for your QB to run the ball 10 times a game?

@NYCPEinGermany He could certainly be better than mediocre.  Of course I agree with that.  All I'm saying is that his performance has graduated to a mediocre level SO FAR.  That's still a huge upgrade, but he's just had the best month of his career and he's putting up numbers not much better than Sanchez at his best.  Even in a good month, he was still inconsistent and had areas where he could improve.

The guy's a rookie, he's going to hopefully get a lot better and improve on those areas.  I didn't mean that mediocre is all he'll ever be, just that this is what he is at the moment.

And as we suggested all offseason, mediocre play from the QB position was going to be enough to get this team a bunch of wins.

@__fense You need to watch more cookery shows.

And don't worry, Boss Hogg is still his nickname.  He's just the Blast Chiller when he comes in to carry the ball on offense.

@r_in_ct In terms of snaps, though he did get beat on that blocked punt.  :)

@rkymtnjet The 1000 pound backfield!   (I think it's 990 according to the jets site, but I'll just round up.)

I think they should've used Sheldon on that 3rd and inches play (or do something other than audible to the predictable run up the middle that the defense was stacked for).

@BDarc23 shields and verner are my top choices because they good starters plus they are young. 26, and 25

@BDarc23 Verner, Talib, Vontae Davis, Tillman, Grimes are all slated to be FA's. The talent is there, but it is really a question of who makes it through to FA.

@levi If you'll recall, I noticed the same thing when I did the original BGA on Reed.  Whether that's lack of confidence in his hip preventing him from throwing himself at the ball carrier unless he absolutely has to or just an over-cautious approach in general, I can't say.

@levi reed and the secondary started playing better overall when reed stopped playing every snap. the reduced role played very well and i have no problem with that continuing

@Bent @NYCPEinGermany

Makes sense in that context. Obviously, I read it as his ceiling was mediocre at best.

Interesting that his play at his best so far is no no better than Sanchez's best - though this must be hard to quantify. Sanchez was always so inconsistent - people look back at his comeback wins as his glory days, yet even then there were always questions about the offense disappearing for quarters and even games at a time. I suppose if you look at the playoff win in NE as Sanchez's best, Geno is not there yet. But was Sanchez really there or was it a lucky game or two (albeit postseason) where every bounce went his way?

@Bent

Since Reed is best used on passing downs, his reluctance to attack RB's  shouldn't be too much of an issue. he hasn't shied away from all contact as he has broken up some passes with physical play.

Miami had their most success on the ground AFTER the Jets subbed in their nickel package in yesterdays game from what is saw, did you notice that as well?

levi
levi

@Bent I hadnt noticed it until yesterday but I was thinking maybe hes hurt. If he comes back hopefully he gets healthy if thats the problem.

Brendan
Brendan

@greggreen Yeah, now it's just a matter of which of these guys actually make it to FA, which I have no inclination on one way or the other in most cases.
