In a story in the Washington Post, Tom Siestema writes that Jeff Halpern, along with a childhood friend and business partner, are opening up a carryout restaurant called Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken in downtown Washington.
They hope to open the restaurant by the Presidential Inauguration in January.
The story says that Halpern and his friend Elliot Spaisman have loved donuts since they were kids and would follow hockey practices with boxes of donuts from Montgomery Donuts.
The donuts will be made in many flavors including, Creme brulee, passion fruit, maple-bacon and carrot cake.
The fried chicken will be served in one of three ways, buttermilk, siracha glaze or a dry rub of spices.
