- Caught off guard? “Definitely. I don’t know when my return will be, but I am really excited that the Rangers wanted me.”
- On his broken collarbone: “It’s about 4 weeks now, I am flying in tonight to see the NY doctors and we will go from there.”
- On talking to the Rangers, “I briefly talked with Glen. He called and welcomed me and was wondering how my shoulder was doing and giving me some details on a flight and seeing some doctors. When I get there I am sure we will have meetings with Torts. I got a text from a good friend in Nasher.”
Dorsett is 26, 6ft and 192lbs.
He has 280 games of NHL experience with 27 goals and 38 assists.
This season, Dorsett played in 24 games, had three goals, nine assists, 53 PIM, 55 hits and averaged 16 minutes per game.
Last season, Dorsett played in 77 games, had 12 goals, 8 assists, 235 PIM, 199 hits, 19 fights and 14:41 per game.
Dorsett has two more years left on his contract after this season and when he signed his contract, former Columbus GM Scott Howson said “I’m not surprised by what he accomplished (this season), but he certainly took a giant leap forward in terms of his ability to contribute to the team. I can’t say I’m surprised, though. He’s been doing this sort of thing for his team since he was 17 or 18 years old, in the junior ranks.”
Howson added “He’s a great example of a young man who’s put everything into his career, and he’s getting rewarded.”
His agent told the Dispatch at the time, “If you put him in a leadership role — and I expect he’ll become more and more of a leader in Columbus, building off last season — it’s hard for guys to play with him and not have that kind of spirit and attitude and passion rub off.”
