In a post to twitter and during a chat, Aaron Portzline writes that while Derick Brassard and John Moore were former first round picks, Derek Dorsett was likely the toughest player for Columbus to part with in the Marian Gaborik trade.
Portzline writes that Dorsett is very likely to become a fan favorite with the Rangers, “he’s not big, but his heart swells in the sweater. Tortorella will love this guy as long as he limits ill-advised penalties. He’s a fearless, tireless, relentless player who will fight anybody.
Jim Matheson wrote in the Edmonton Journal that Dorsett is the “key to this deal.” He says that Dorsett is one of the NHL’s best “disturbers.”
Adam Rotter: Everything I have heard about this guy has been excellent. He wore a letter with the Blue Jackets and was a former sixth round pick who worked his way into a regular and important spot with the Blue Jackets. He does seem to have John Tortorella type player written all over him. We may not get to see him until next season, but it is far from a stretch to expect Dorsett to make an impact the second he steps on the ice.
