Recap: Assistant coach Dan Lacroix pre-game comments

Dan Lacroix spoke with John Giannone on MSG before game two between the Rangers and Penguins:

  • On the PP and keeping it simple, “I think there is, if you start squeezing your stick and over thinking plays, on the PP we want to get back to basics, move the puck early, establish a shot and get some bodies to the front of the net.”

  • Are you surprised the PP has struggled so much, “we are playing against some really good teams, really good PKs and sometimes momentum shifts early in a game and it’s tough to get it back. We want to keep the momentum, PP isn’t just about scoring, it’s about getting the momentum back on our side, if you have good control and get good entry the pucks will go in the net.”
  • What is the message to the team, “we want to come out strong, we know they will come out with their best effort, especially a home after the last game, we need some really strong shifts early, get four lines rolling and get a good road game to start.”
  • How desperate are the Rangers, “it’s a desperate time of year and everyone needs to play hard, we know we have a good start to the series and want to back it up with another solid game.”

At least we are keeping it simple, very simple. So simple that a mite c could figure it out. Skate it up the middle, pass it before the red line, dump it in hard and if we get it back play it as close to the blue line as possible with no high percentage shots.

Looks like Rangers just trying to weather the storm they were expecting -even though we had the PP most of the first 10 minutes.

@Matt Corbin  yep-very conservative. I think it will open up a bit in the 2nd.

I think we can take notes on their PP setups. 3 points and much wider cross-ice passing lanes.
