Boyle just finished the final-year of a three-year deal that had a cap hit of $1.7 million.

Boyle said after game six of the Eastern Conference Final:

  • On playing for a new contract, “it was probably more on my mind during the season and maybe trade deadline. Things happen and deals are up and guys get traded and in a salary cap league different things happen and I am trying to do my best and I hope they want me to stay because I love it here.”
  • Do you want to say, “absolutely, 100%. I have made that pretty clear. It’s close enough to home and my mom is here now and my dad was at game four. A lot of pros to it and this group here.”

Boyle said that he is looking for an expanded role in his new contract but Alain Vigneault said that if he were to stay with the Rangers, Boyle would stay in his fourth line role.

It’s been speculated that Boyle could get over $3 million in his new contract.

Could only go 5yrs if cap hit was 2 mil. Team offering 5yrs has to be a lower tier team looking for Boyle to play a bigger role on ice and take a leadership spot.

If he doesn't want to play within AV's system, let him walk.

I like what Boyle did all playoffs and he would be tough to replace. You can't fault the guy for wanting more years and more dollars in what will probably be his only solid deal.

This is going to turn into a Prust situation where someone goes with a contract that is 4 years and $2.5-$2.8 per. I could see him going to play with his buddy Cally in Tampa and being their 3rd line center.

We could sign Z. Konopka for 900k and he's a waaay better faceoff man, waaay cheaper & a waaaay better fighter anyway .... Obviously our PK will take a hit, But I'm hoping JT Miller, Lindberg, and Fast can learn to fill that role ... or pick up a cheap "stop-gap" this year until those 3 are ready for the PK role

We can't pay 4th Line guys over 1.5-1.7 million a year and field a successful team

If he leaves that assures D.Moore of getting a new contract with Rangers

I can see why the Rangers don't want to pay Boyle that much, but his loss will hurt.

not going to lie I cursed this mans name during the regular season  but  he played very well in the playoffs in my mind. went above and beyond for the rangers with that being said no way I pay him  3 million or more.. sorry..

@twiggy10 I agree. Can't fault the guy; this is probably his only shot at "big money." (The irony of what he'll be paid being small potatoes in the NHL while any one of us would kill (not literally) for that kind of money is not lost on me).

No. Konopka is possibly the worst player in the league and the stats back me up. He scores zero points and is the worst possession forward in the NHL. Look it up. Yes, he can win a face off and is happy to lose a fight but that's hardly worth it. He's a 5 minute player at best.
