While speaking in early July Rangers GM Glen Sather said that the decision to keep Brad Richards had a lot to do with the organization believing that last season was an aberration and that he will bounce back and be much better this coming season.
Alain Vigneault in early July and said “my understanding is that Glen spoke to the staff and everyone feels that Brad has a tremendous amount of upside. He has been a great player and can continue to play in big moments. I have spoken to Brad. I had a good conversation with him and he will be a New York Ranger.”
John Tortorella talked about Brad Richards on the radio early in July and said “I think Brad Richards is a hell of a hockey player and still can be. I am not going to explain some of the things I feel he needs to do to get back there, it’s not my job anymore and I don’t feel comfortable doing that. Brad and I had a very frank conversation at the end of the year and I still think there is a lot of hockey left in Brad Richards.”
