Richards was on the ice late and skating with the extra players at the Rangers optional morning skate.
Gross says that John Tortorella called Richards this morning to tell him he would be a healthy scratch.
Richards has one goal in ten playoff games and is a minus three. He has 18 shots on goal, seven hits, six blocked shots, six giveaways and two takeaways.
He is averaging 14:43 per game, but has played under that in every game since game six against Washington.
Richards has also played under 10 minutes twice. He is 47.9% on faceoffs in the playoffs.
Darren Dreger tweets that if the Rangers do buyout Richards there will be teams lining up to sign him for $3 million per season for three years.
Dreger adds “Richards is still young, a very proud guy and proven winner. He will refocus in offseason and bounce back next year.”
