Note: John Tortorella Would Rather His Players Not Play In Europe

Following the lockout of 2004-05 that canceled the entire season, John Tortorella, of the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, told the St. Petersburg times that he was concerned with how his players would react to playing again in the NHL.

Tortorella expressed concern over the players that went to play in Europe, saying “I think we are going to be full of bad habits. I think that guys that played overseas and I don’t mind saying it at all, I think it’s awful hockey. I think the guys who played over there for six months will have more bad habits than the guys who played three on three in Brandon all winter long.”

Torts added “there’s no hitting. It’s almost a love-fest over there as far as competing and that has to change and it’s going to change right away. We have a lot of work to do.”
