2PM: The Rangers have announced the move. Their release is below.
9:22PM: Donnay told GoErie.com that today is a special day for his family and that he was grateful to Erie for acquiring him from London and giving him a chance to play.
3:03PM: According to Cap Geek, the Rangers have signed 19-year old defenseman Troy Donny to an entry-level contract.
Donnay is 6-7, 185 lbs and took part in the Rangers prospect camp. He is from Fenton, Minnesota and played in 68 games for the Erie Otters this season. He had one goal and seven assists while having a role as an Alternate Captain.
He is a right-handed shot. Donnay was ranked 122nd by Central Scouting in 2012 and went undrafted.
Donnay has one-year left of junior eligibility and his contract, if sent back to Erie, will slide and not count against the Rangers reserve list of 50 contracts.
GoErie.com reported yesterday that Donnay was close to signing with the Rangers and when asked, said he couldn’t really talk about the situation.
Donnay’s cap hit will be $716,667 at the NHL level.
In 2012, at OHL Prospects, Brock writes that Donnay is a project, but is someone who can move around pretty well for someone that size. He notes that Donnay is raw, needs to get stronger and develop a mean streak.
