Read: Thomas Spelling Is An Impressive Guy

The Rangers traded their fifth round pick in 2013 for a fifth round pick in this past draft and selected Thomas Spelling

Jeff Gorton told the Rangers website that Spelling was someone who impressed the Rangers scouts, “We all saw him in the world junior and he was a real good player against the better competition. Generally speaking we don’t take a lot of guys from Denmark. His goal scoring ability, he has a great shot, his willingness to go play in the Elite League in Sweden. He has a chance to be a sniper.”

Spelling is going to play next season for Rogle in the Swedish Elite League.

The Rogle website says of Spelling that he is a “super talent” and that Spelling had many teams bidding for him in the Elite League but he chose Rogle on the advice of his friend Jesper Jensen.

He adds, “I think I’m mostly a scorer …”

News: Rangers Select Thomas Spelling

The Rangers have acquired the 142nd pick in the draft from Nashville for a fifth rounder next year and select forward Thomas Spelling.

Spelling, from Denmark, is 6-1, 176lbs.

He is the 90th ranked European skater according to Central Scouting. He isn’t ranked by Future Considerations.

Adam Rotter: This is one of those picks that really intrigues me because he is obviously a guy the Rangers were high on and willing to trade back into the draft for him. Maybe he is the next Jesper Fast?
