Zuccarello8/18/14 | 6:34PM: Mats Zuccarello played in 77 games this past season. That number is more than the total amount of games he played (67) in the NHL during his three previous seasons with the Rangers.

Zuccarello’s 59 points this season was 25 more than he had in those previous 67 games.

Zuccarello said that this is the first year he has played a lot and that he has always said that if you play a lot and get important minutes your confidence will go up. (NY Post)

Dominic Moore said recently that with Henrik Lundqvist in net and the Rangers depth at forward and defense, the team feels that they can build on this past season.

Derick Brassard said recently that everyone can learn a lot from last year’s run but as a team they need to look forward and have the right preparation. He said it’s up to the players to work hard everyday to get the Rangers back to where they were. (Rangers)

8/13/14 | 10:22AM: Mats Zuccarello says that he feels he has become part of the Rangers “core” and that has allowed him to feel “slightly” more comfortable heading into this season. He adds that he feels a responsibility to be one of the Rangers leaders. (TV2)

He said that the Rangers “probably” would have given him a longer-term contract if not for the salary cap and that he can sign a new deal during the season or wait until after the year to become a free agent and sign anywhere. He said that he will control the position he will be in, whether teams will want him or not, based on how he plays this season. (TV2)

Zuccarello “claims” that there is an “agreement” between he and the organization that he will be the next player to get a long-term deal after he “sacrificed” that this summer to sign a one-year deal and help the team’s salary cap situation. (TV2)

8/9/14 | 12:23PM: Mats Zuccarello was asked about the Rangers losing Brad Richards and said that he was a “vital cog” in the team, “especially off the ice.” (Nettavisen)

He says that Richards was a big help because of his experience and was a big leader in the locker room. (Nettavisen)

Zuccarello added, “It’s clear he’s going to be a loss.” (Nettavisen)

He said on the day of the buyout that losing Richards is “a shame.”

Carl Hagelin said that Richards was an “amazing” teammate who helped him a lot.

Henrik Lundqvist said, “Brad Richards has been outstanding this season on and off the ice and accepted the role of more responsibility and a lot of credit to Brad.” (Fox Sports)

He says that he has spent most of the offseason at home in Norway, besides a little trip to Spain, and has been working out a bit to try and stay in shape. (Nettavisen)

8/5/14 | 9:12AM: In a video on Facebook, Zuccarello said “Summer is going great, really happy that I signed my new contract and can’t wait to get back to New York and start it. Hopefully we are all ready for the season to start in October and Let’s Go Rangers.”   (FB)

Zuccarello took 16 penalties this season but drew 34. (Extra Skater)

Joe Micheletti described Zuccarello as a “no nonsense player” who is gutsy, gritty and plays a blue collar type of game.

Derick Brassard said that Zuccarello plays much bigger than his size, “that is for sure.” (NY Times)

Brassard, in late January said on MSG, “Zucc is a shifty player with great vision. He is really strong on the puck and plays bigger than his size. What I like about Mats is that he competes every night and comes to work even for practice he always has a smile on his face and a big passion for the game and he has been one of the best players if not our best player this year. I like to play with him and Benny and I hope it keeps going.”
