Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault spoke with Sam Rosen on MSG before the Rangers and Habs:

  • On tonight, “we won’t relax and what we will do is…this game, as far as the standings, has no impact but what we want to do is go into the playoffs and feel good about our game and we will pay attention to details and play the right way on the ice. We are resting some guys, McDonagh, Girardi and Marty St. Louis but the other four lines and 6 D will get an chance to show they are sharp when the playoffs start.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault post game comments

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media after the Rangers win over the Sabres (SNY’s Nick Licalzi)

  • On the start, “we didn’t have a very good start. I don’t think we had a shot for 8-9-10 minutes, I don’t know what it was but I thought we got better in the second, we gave them one chance and one shot and we had quite a few and we were able to tie it up in the last minute of the second. In the third we found a way to kill two penalties and Nasher got us a big goal and two points.
  • On Brassard, Zucc and Pouliot, “They have come along way, there is no doubt. Tonight their game was a little inconsistent but on some shifts when they were on the ice they were dominating, had the puck, keep it, get some chances, retrieve the puck and they are three skilled players that compliment one another fairly well.” To read more of this story, click here

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s pre game comments (On Ryan McDonagh, playoffs and injuries)

Alain Vigneault

6:50PM: Vigneault spoke with Sam Rosen on MSG before the game:

  • On focusing on getting things right, “we want to go into the playoffs feeling good about ourselves and our game and the best way to do that is continue what we are doing. We had a real strong push to get into the playoffs and compete for the cup. Our guys have been playing well and we want it to continue. It’s about us and playing a good game on defense and offensive when we need to.”
  • Are they easy to motivate, “they are a good group, focused, want to play well and will come out tonight and play a good game.”
  • On playing Buffalo, “I’d like to put pressure on them, on their defense and play on the move, go north/south, east/west. Buffalo is a good team that is well coached and defends well.”
  • On preparing the team for the playoffs, “physically our team is there. They are pro athletes who keep in great shape so there is no concern there. Mentally everybody is excited about competing for the cup. We don’t know who we are playing but when we do we will focus on them.”
  • On Marty St. Louis, “He got some points that night but he has been playing really well, a good teammate and good example and hopefully that last game gives him more confidence offensively but I like his attitude, his work ethic, how he conducts himself and he will help us down the stretch…great addition.”

2:46PM: Alain Vigneault met with the media this morning after the Rangers morning skate (Rangers):

  • ¬†Is the team ready for the playoffs, “yes…we have been improving, fighting our way to get into the playoffs. We have done that. We are playing good hockey and are ready for the opportunity and challenge.”
  • On scouting the teams in the playoffs, “We have an idea of who it might be. There are still some possibilities but until we break it down until who it’s going to be we will just wait and get ready for it.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media following Rangers practice today:

  • On Richards season, “I think he has been a real good leader on our team as far as his work ethic and prep and that has lead to me being able to use him on the PP, he has been our QB back there even more than Mac to some extent. 5 on 5 I have used him with a whole bunch of different players and he has always found a way to contribute on the scoreboard or by making the smart play. He has really helped our team. A veteran player who has bought into what we are trying to create and he has really helped our team move forward.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s post game comments

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media after the game (MSG) and said:

  • Do you see signs for a playoff game, “we talked before the game that we have been playing good hockey for a long time and that we want to go into the playoffs feeling good about our game. For the most part tonight that is what we did. Tonight was one of our best scoring chance nights of the year, we were over 20 and that is a lot in the game. We kept them to 10 which is good. PP scored tonight and we had the Zuccy wave before the game so (laughing) it was a pretty good night all in all.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media following the Rangers optional morning skate this morning (Rangers):

  • “I asked Mac this morning how he was doing, he said he was fine, day to day. Kreids has a cast on so he is out indefinitely.”
  • Will you put McDonagh in before the playoffs if he is ready, “I’m 50/50 on that and will see…he will have to be 100-100% which he should be but I am still 50/50 on that.”
  • Do you think he will practice in full tomorrow, “not 100% sure right now. See how today goes.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media earlier today after the Rangers practice (Rangers):

  • On why Jesper Fast was called up, “quite simply, both Jeff and Schoeny were at the game last night and said that he was the best player on the ice so we felt that we should bring him up, take a look at him in practice and decide tomorrow.”
  • On Nash going to the left side, “that is one thing, the other thing is that Marty is more comfortable on the right side and Nash has played the left side quite a bit so it’s pretty easy for him to move there. Brass’ unit doesn’t change from 5 on 5 to PP and they have had pretty good consistency and success there and we hope that it continues and those lines will have more balance.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault post game comments

AAlain Vigneaultain Vigneault, on Hockey Night Live, met with the media and said:

  • When we had some chances…if we score early I think it’s a different game. I wasn’t crazy about trading chances against a team like that. They have a couple of skill lines and a defenseman that loves to join the attack at every opportunity. We had as many chances as they did in the first period, they scored and we didn’t and then we are trying to find our way back. Energy wise it was a challenge for us but our guys tried hard and just couldn’t get it done.”
  • “We never get the benefit of the doubt when we play back to back. I knew and mentioned this morning that it would be a challenge and we talked about it. First game back from a long road trip, I don’t know why, is always challenging for players and today our execution from defense to offense was average and probably one of the reasons why we had a tough time getting going offensively but we still managed to get some shots on net, get some good looks going and scored two times.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today

Alain Vigneault

6:46PM: Alain Vigneault spoke with Sam Rosen on MSG and said:

  • On the season, “the 30th of December in Tampa Bay, after 40 games we had 40 points and we discussed with the group what we had to do to try and get to the playoffs. We were on the outside at that point and trying to get in and since then the results have been better, we have been playing really good hockey, we were playing good hockey prior to the Tampa game but weren’t getting the results. We have turned it around and have an opp tonight to clinch a spot without help so helpfully we can get it done.”
  • What adjustment did you make at that time, “no adjustment. As a group I thought we were playing well but the biggest adjustment was probably that Hank started to play like Hank and that for our team and all the pieces¬† fell into place. Goaltending can take you a long way and since that time we have gotten great goaltending.”
  • On Richards and St. Louis, “I will try another piece there. Not that I haven’t liked what they have done, they have found ways to contribute without being on the scoresheet…I like the looks of the other three lines. Brian Boyle has been playing some good hockey and playing well and using his size and going to the tough areas. We will see what he can do with Brad and Marty.”
  • On Marc Staal, “Marc is one of our best two way players and we need him to keep playing that way. He will log big minutes tonight I am sure he is looking forward to it.”

5:23PM: Alain Vigneault met with the media this morning after the Rangers morning skate (Rangers) :

  • Any update on McDonagh or Kreider, “McDonagh is day to day and Kreider I have not asked anyone.”
  • He isn’t able to do anything yet, “I don’t know, would be wrong for me to give you that answer. I haven’t asked anyone.”
  • McDonagh isn’t playing tonight, “no.”
