Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today on what needs to happen tomorrow and how the players are feeling

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media today following the Rangers optional skate (via the NHL)

Q. You said you’d take the night to think about what to say to your team. Do you have something in mind now?
COACH VIGNEAULT: You know, all the talk that we can have around trying to spin this any way you want, 29 other teams would like to be in our spot. You know, we’ve played well. Just need bounces.
Whatever talk you might use, at the end of the day for us right now it’s about one game. That’s as simple and logical and realistic as I can put it for you. We have to focus on one game and that’s what we’re going to do.

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today

Alain Vigneault met with the media today following the Rangers morning skate (via the NHL)

Q. How concerned are you with Richards’ game in Game2? Do you feel changes might be necessary as far as the forward alignment?
COACH VIGNEAULT: I mean, I’m sure Brad, with his experience, knows that their whole line needs to be better. If you look at the stats on that night, it obviously wasn’t one of their better nights.
But they’re veteran guys. They’ve been around. They can evaluate their game real well. I’m sure they’re going to have a good bounce‑back game tonight.

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today

Alain Vigneault met with the media today following the Rangers flight back from LA (via the NHL)

Q. Is there a certain message to the players now?
COACH VIGNEAULT: Our guys are going to be real focused tomorrow. We need to hold serve. We’re back in our building. We’ve played some good hockey. We might feel that we deserve a better outcome than what we have right now, which is trailing by two games.
But it doesn’t matter. At the end of the day we got to take care of business tomorrow, and that’s what we’re going to do.

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s post game comments

Alain Vigneault met with the media following the Rangers game two loss (via the NHL):

Q. Second straight game you’ve given up a two goal lead. You seemed to be better in the third period. How do you get past that?
COACH VIGNEAULT: We played a good game tonight. We had a good third period also. I mean, if you look at the scoring chances in the third, they were 3 2 because their third goal I guess was a chance because it ended up in the back of our net.
But we played well. We gave ourselves a chance to play. They’re a good team. We had some looks in overtime. Just couldn’t score.

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s pre game comments

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media in LA before game two (via the NHL):

Q. No Cam Talbot?

COACH VIGNEAULT: No.

Q. You have a lot of experience with this West Coast, East Coast, the travel. What are the benefits of having the team stay overnight and traveling tomorrow instead of going right after the game?

COACH VIGNEAULT: Well, it’s just common sense. I mean, if we were to fly home after the game, we’d be leaving here, let’s say, 9:00 western time, which is 12:00 our time, we’d be getting home at 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning. You lose a full night’s sleep. Obviously you don’t sleep the same way on a plane than you do in your own bed, so we’re going to stay over and fly tomorrow. To read more of this story, click here

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media following Rangers practice (via the NHL):

Q. After the way Game1 went down, advantage for you to have the two days in between as opposed to one day off?
COACH VIGNEAULT: It’s the same for both teams. I don’t see an advantage in it.
I mean, the schedule is what it is. At this time they said two days in between games. So took yesterday off. Guys got away from the game a little bit. Today we had a good practice. We had a good meeting before. We’re going to be ready tomorrow.

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneualt met with the media in LA on Thursday (via the NHL):

Q. Obviously Dan’s pass did not lose the game last night. When a guy makes a play like that that’s so out there at the end, what is the dynamic of how difficult it is when you have two days till you play another game?
COACH VIGNEAULT: I haven’t talked to him yet personally. I do know a couple of my assistants have. I do know that Dan’s got great teammates. I’m sure that they’ve all talked to him.
It was a bounce. It was a bounce that unfortunately didn’t work out. He couldn’t put the handle on it. Stuff like that happens. You got to turn the page and move on.
Q. Do you feel you let one get away as a team on this one? And what sort of adjustments do you have to make to get a win?
COACH VIGNEAULT: Well, I’m in the process at this time of watching the game. I haven’t watched the whole game yet. I’ve watched parts of it.
One thing that’s real evident to me, and it should be to our whole group, is we’re not going to beat this team if we do not all bring our A game. It is that strong of an opponent that we’re playing against.

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s post game comments

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media after the Rangers game one loss (via the NHL):

Q. Did you feel early on you were able to set the pace? Where do you feel it got away from you?
COACH VIGNEAULT: I don’t think we set the pace. I liked the way we played in the first two periods. I thought it was a hard?fought, you know, first 40 minutes by both teams.
Not quite sure what happened there in the third. Not sure if it was them being that good or us stopping moving the puck and skating and going north/south.
They definitely took it to us in the third and they were able to get a bounce on the winning goal and put it in the back of the net.
