Recap: Alain Vigneault’s post game comments

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media following the Rangers 5-4 loss to the Devils (NYR)

  • On Ryan Malone and JT Miller, “I thought that JT had some good moments. You can see the skill set and he was battling hard on the puck, made some nice plays. For a first exhibition game, a chance to see him in the middle, I think he did some good things. Ryan, it was his first game in a long time, he did a good job on the PP. Most guys are playing 12-15-16 minutes. I thought that for the most part it was a step in the right direction and a chance for the coaches to evaluate him and take it from there.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today (On Matthew Lombardi, cuts, Henrik Lundqvist)

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media today to discuss tonight’s preseason game against the Devils (NYR)

  • Update on Derek Stepan, “Rammer decided to give him another full day off the ice, figures that it’s just day to day and nothing serious.”
  • On Matthew Lombardi, “He is a guy that played in the league and played with Ulfie in Phoenix. We knew his skill set, lots of speed, quick on transition, smart player, can kill penalties. He fit a role that we were looking for. He for a couple of years was on the injured side and not play up to his potential. Last year he went to Europe and had a real solid season over there from the people who our scouts are talking to. He has his confidence back and for us, it was a player that has proven he can play at this level, can he still do it, we will give him an opportunity and see what happens.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today on the scrimmage

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media today following the Rangers scrimmage (LoHud via SoundCloud) :

  • Did you like the pace, “for us, I think the second part of our evaluation starts tomorrow. The first three days you go through conditioning and certain parts of system, which we have done, things that will permit us to get the puck back quicker, we have gone through that with the 40 some odd players who we have. We gave them an opportunity to do it in game like conditions and tomorrow we are going to face an opponent who is going to hit, the intensity will be higher, not that it wasn’t good but when you play against your own teammates the pace and intensity isn’t going to be as good. Tomorrow night we will start to have a good read of where certain players are and where our team is.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today (On Mats Zuccarello, Kevin Hayes, improved conditioning)

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media today after training camp practices: (NYR)

  • On Mats Zuccarello, “last year, in his young career, he established himself as a real good NHL player. One year doesn’t make a career but I had seen his off ice test results before and last year was the year he came to camp in the best condition. His conditioning from the year before to last summer, it improved dramatically. I think that had a lot to do with him having a good season. I see him as a real good young player that is improving and putting in the time and figuring out how to be successful and now we just need to figure out what is the best way for us to use him on our team.”

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s comments today

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media today to discuss the first day of on-ice workouts (Rangers):

  • “what we are trying to do right now is build our foundation to have a successful season. You do that by getting on the same page as far as systems and style of play. I felt that we had good tempo in the first half, quick video on defensive zone responsibilities and how we want to play in our own end and I thought that for the most part a lot of our guys applied how we want to play on the ice. It was the first day and guys got tested yesterday and I thought it was a real good first day for us.”

  • Is it tough to be patient when you have been close to winning it twice, “no. I will tell you, I think you understand that each group and each season is different, a different opportunity, new pieces get added on. What we all try to do is learn from our experiences and make everyone stronger individually and collectively but you have to turn the page on what has happened in the past and focus on the now. Our focus has to be on training camp and the different goals that we want to establish, the conditioning, getting on the same page as far as our systems and style of play and coming together as a group and probably the most important part, because we have some new players is to pick our team and put guys in role and make our team the best that it can be.”
