9/27/14 | 2:21PM: In his second preseason game, JT Miller had a goal, played 16:10, had 3 shots on goal, 2 shots that were blocked, 1 shot that missed the net, 1 blocked shot and 13 faceoff wins and 5 losses.

Alain Vigneault said that he was happy with Miller’s strong performance on faceoffs and that he is going through the process of becoming a better player.”

Asked to evaluate his game so far, Miller said that he thinks he has been “solid” but still needs to work on things like managing the puck and not forcing as many plays. (MSG)

Rick Nash was asked about Miller and said “I think the biggest thing is that his game has matured a lot from the last season, not only on the ice but off the ice, he understands what it means to take that next step and become a permanent NHL guy.”

JT MillerJT Miller had two primary assists on Monday night against the Devils to go along with 1 hit, 1 giveaway, 2 takeaways, 1 blocked shot and 8 faceoff wins and 10 faceoff losses.

Miller didn’t register a shot attempt on Monday night in his 14:26 of ice time. He played 4:35 in the first period, 4:46 in the second period and 5:05 in the third period.

On Miller’s game, Alain Vigneault said “I thought that JT had some good moments. You can see the skill set and he was battling hard on the puck, made some nice plays. For a first exhibition game, a chance to see him in the middle, I think he did some good things.”

Miller played an “assertive” game and was effective both on the PP and at even strength. (NY Post)

In JT and Hayes, they are starting in the middle and as the camp unfolds we will look at decisions that need to be made. Hayes has played mostly wing at BC but played center during the Traverse City tournament.

Miller said that his preference is to play center but can also play wing. He said that center has started to “fit” him better in the pro game and while he has made strides, he still needs to work on his defensive zone coverage. (Rangers)

Last season Miller was 26 and 25 on faceoffs and two years ago, Miller was 63 and 55 on faceoffs.

9/6/14 | 10:45AM: JT Miller has been skating with a group of Rangers at the training facility in Westchester as training camp nears.

During these informal skates, Miller is looking “quicker” and sharper” on the ice. The team would “love” it if Miller could snag a spot on the Rangers third line.  (Newsday)

Miller has had a “serious demeanor” during the Rangers workouts. (Rangers)

Last year, Miller didn’t report to New York until just before training camp.

The organization has made Miller aware of the opportunity he has this season.

JT MillerOver the past few years the Rangers have set a precedent of players spending time in the AHL before making it full time with the Rangers. (NHL.com)

Both Mats Zuccarello and Chris Kreider spent varying amounts of time in Hartford before finally establishing themselves as NHL regulars.

Kreider’s is the path that Tal Pinchevsky thinks Miller can follow based on their histories as first round picks who spent a year going up and down to Hartford. (NHL.com)

8/7/14 | 8:57AM: Gorton says that you only get so many chances, that Miller is a “pretty proud guy and a confident kid” and that everything about this season is up to him. Gorton adds that Miller can play all three forward positions, has the “size, talent and ability” to play in the NHL and this is a big summer for him. (NHL.com)

Glen Sather said at the draft that they expect Miller to “come to play” this year. Sather said that Miller is “young, fits into the price range and will develop into a very good hockey player.” He adds that Miller showed a lot of growth this past season.

It’s been said before that the Rangers are counting on Miller to take a step this coming season.

  • Miller is “more than ready” to be an NHLer and should be able to beat out Chris Bourque or Chris Mueller for a roster spot. (The Hockey News)
