Read: The jobs that are open in the Rangers lineup

The two jobs open in the Rangers lineup are third line center and fourth line right wing, according to Allan Muir. (SI)

JT Miller is who the Rangers want to fill that role but he will be challenged by Matthew Lombardi who can likely play the “up-tempo” game that Alain Vigneault wants. (SI)

Jesper Fast was in position to fill the fourth-line RW spot but now has to contend with Kevin Hayes who would rather “go through an opponent than around him.” That type of physical play is something the Rangers are lacking while Fast brings a two-way game that may be more NHL ready. (SI)

One of the jobs were likely promised to Kevin Hayes as part of getting him to sign here. Fast is more ready for the NHL but Hayes size is Nessasary for the success of this team. I also think Stempniak would make a good 3rd line possession player but he'll end up on the 4th line RW in favor of Hayes and his physically imposing brand of hockey. Although most scouting reports state Hayes isn't the most gritty player but will get involved when pushed. I assume he will be tested by veterans in the early stages. He'll have to adjust on the fly.
