Recap: Scott Arniel’s pre game comments

Scott ArnielAssociate coach Scott Arniel spoke with John Giannone on MSG before game seven between the Rangers and Penguins:

  • On the emotions, “obviously with game seven there is lots of nerves and anticipation to start playing. It seems like a long time since game six so you just want to drop the puck and get playing. I know the players are excited. This is what you live for, the things you look back on and we have already had a game seven so maybe it’s something we can draw back on for experience.”

  • On extra comfort, “I think anytime Hank is in net, he is always giving our team confidence. Our best players need to be our best players. It isn’t just 2 or 3 guys, it’s a team game and in game five and six our team game really stepped up and our top end guys stepped up and we need to do it for one more game.”
  • On the execution, “we have talked about getting through the neutral zone and getting on the forecheck which is a big strength. We gotta make them defend and play in their end of the rink and making sure that we get through the neutral zone with speed and get to that puck quickly.”
  • Do you coach it differently, “nothing changes, if you start zeroing in on too much and the players get thinking and we just want the players to react and get playing and like we said, we just went through and need to do it again. We need to believe in each other and play with that emotion and play it hard.”
