Recap: Alain Vigneault’s Pre Game Press Conference

Alain Vigneault6:49PM: Sam Rosen spoke with Alain Vigneault on MSG:

  • On rolling four lines, “any time you play the number of games we are playing, four games in six nights with a back to back you want to be able to use your bench, it makes it easier to use your bench when you are up by a goal, just down by a goal, in the last couple of games it has been more challenging because we have gotten down by a couple of goals and you go to your more offensive players but last night it was a pretty solid effort, was able to spread the minutes to the forwards and the D and hopefully we will have the energy we need against a real strong team.”
  • “I think the commitment has been there for a while. Sometimes it is there and the execution is just a little off whether it be the timely goal or timely save that makes it more challenging in different games. Our guys are committed.  Last night we had a strong game and we want to follow it up.”
  • On Cam Talbot, “he played real well last night, the players played well in front of him and he deserves another start so we are putting him back in.”
  • “right now he is stopping the puck and that is what goalies are supposed to do. It wasn’t an overly taxing night, there were only 8 scoring chances against and we feel that tonight he is the best guy for the job.

5:15PM: Alain Vigneault met with the media prior to the Rangers game against the Maple Leafs (Rangers Report)

  • On going with Cam, “I felt that Cam played a real good game for us last night and decided to go with him.”
  • On Henrik getting a mental break, “we are playing a back to back and 4 games in 6 nights so my focus right now is on what we need to do on the ice to beat a very good team and I will leave it at that for now.”
  • Is there pressure to play Hank, “It is a good question. Right now I am focused on Toronto. We are playing back to back, 4 in 6 nights, we have done a lot of work and I want to put my attention to that.”

  • Is a back to back tonight good after last night, “That is what we are hoping. We had a real strong performance offensively and defensively. We only gave up 8 chances, played a good structured game that permitted us to create good quality chances and that is what we are hoping to do tonight. Toronto is more of a high tempo team, they like to attack in waves and it should be a good challenge.”
  • On the previous games and being frustrated, “those other games are behind me, behind our players. Everyone is focused on Toronto. We can’t do anything about the past.”
  • On Marc Staal, “I wasn’t here this morning but I hear he had a real hard go and responded real well and hopefully his recovery will continue because he is a real important team for us.”
  • How different is the defense without him, “he is one of our veteran defenders and it permits Ryan to play such important minutes. Permits us to have real good defenders playing against the other teams top lines. Marc defends real well, he has good hockey sense and a real good stick and hopefully we will have him in the lineup soon.”
  • On Benoit Pouliot, “I have seen another player that has responded real well. We scratched Zuccarello and he has come back on his second opportunity and has been one of our best two ways players. Benoit has done the exact same thing. He has jumped on his second opportunity. He is playing to his strengths, he has a good skill set and one thing he has been doing since he came back is being more physical. He is skating on the ice and finishing his checks. We need that from our forwards and he has been doing that.”
  • On Toronto, “If I am part of our dressing room right now, or any room in our division, it is so tight. All the games are so important and players should be up for every game.”

it should be sop to start the player that is playing the best at the moment, if not then competition is only talk and will only frustrate deserving players.

Talbot hs been better than Hank so I agree with AV. Play the best guys!
