Alain Vigneault

Recap: Alain Vigneault’s post game comments

Alain Vigneault met with the media on MSG following the Rangers OT win over the Penguins:

  • On their push in the second and third period response, “I thought in the first period we played a real fundamental game with and without the puck, in the second period they took it to another level, their execution was better, they got some chances on the rush and made us pay. They were the better team but we responded with a good third period, it was a tie game, it could have gone either way, our goalie made some big saves and gave us a chance to win in OT.”

  • On the resiliency of the Rangers, “we are playing pretty much our whole bench pretty even minutes, forwards and D, our guys had pretty good energy. Our guys had good focus and good meetings today and I thought we were in a pretty good position to be tied in this building and we played a real solid third period and got it done in OT.”
  • On the Brassard line, “since Christmas they have probably been our most consistent line. They have real good chemistry, they read off one another and support one another well. Tonight they were good with the puck and strong on the forecheck and scored two in OT.”
  • On the ability to match their desperation in game two, “it won’t be difficult, all we have done is won one game. We will rest up tomorrow, have a couple of good meetings to get ready for an opponent and there are things we need to do to get better and we will talk about that and get ready for the next game.”
  • On Marc Staal and Anton Stralman, “in Marc’s case, he has one of the best sticks in the league as far as taking space and time away and putting stick on puck. He did a good job of gapping up on a player who if you give any space and time you will be in trouble. Him and Straalsie have found a way to compliment each other real well, defensively in getting the puck out of our end. We have two pretty good duos that we aren’t afraid to match up against any line so it makes it easier on the road to get the matchups you are looking for.”
  • “There is not a chance that we can beat this team if we don’t have five man units all over the ice, with and without the puck so they are both right and doing the right thing and giving the credit to other people.”
