Recap: Alain Vigneault’s Post Game Comments

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault (MSG) spoke with the media following the Rangers shootout loss to the Penguins:

  • On the game, “I thought we came out with a real strong first period, our best period in a long time. We kept them to one chance and had four good chances. Their goaltender made some good saves. In the second they took the lead on the power play and we were able to come back and tie it up. We haven’t come back in very many situations this year and in the third we came back from a two goal deficit. Our power play scored a big goal at a key moment to tie it up for us. We had a chance to win it in OT and we had a few chances in the shootout but couldn’t get it.”
  • On Henrik Lundqvist after getting hit, “anytime you goalie goes down you are obviously worried. He got up pretty quickly and Rammer came back and said he was fine.”

  • On Carl Hagelin, “I thought that Hags, with his speed was a positive factor in the game. He could challenge their D by going wide with his speed. He got a goal by beating one of their defenseman and I figured we would use that element to give him some more ice time.”
  • “It’s an area that is not easy to get to and we are encouraging our players to get more pucks to the net, find those rebounds. That is where you score most of the goals and we are encouraging them to do it obviously.”
  • “I think it might have been our first 4 on 3 of the year, I am not 100% on that, I don’t remember us having that many so it’s not a situation that we have seen a lot. We had a couple of good looks but give them credit, that team blocked a lot of shots, they were in shooting lanes tonight.”
  • “I think Rick is competing hard and trying to go to the tough areas and trying to use his size. With his work ethic, we need that production without a doubt and I think it’s gonna come.”
